spotlight search iOS 9 contacts not showing in results

I upgrade to iOS 9 this week excited about the new search feature. The only thing I used spotlight for on iOS 8 was quickly pulling up a specific contact. It seems Apple has created a iOS that returns everything except the obvious result I'm looking for and when I search for a name everything under the sun returns except the contact card I am looking for. I feel like it should be called "unnecessarily complicated and unintuitive search." Is anyone else experiences this? Does anyone have a fix?

So the digital trends article ONLY TEMPORARILY worked. in the morning it fixed two iphone 5 and then tonight both can't search again. It is even consistent to the point that the partial searches we sometimes see are the same behavior on the same contacts across our phones.

BTW the behavior shifts. Sometimes it doesn't find any reference to the name, sometimes it finds the name in a record that has the name in the comments field and sometimes it finds the actual name record itself AND the behavior is the same at the same time on these two phones

I too recently upgraded 9.0.1 and is in a fix. Search for a particular contact does not list all options. Say if i search Dr, it doest not list all contacts starting with or contains Dr !!! I contacted apple care and i got advice for soft reset and then factory reset!!!.

But none of this worked and now after half a day of installation of the new os, it is showing up more results. I think its the indexing in progress which is creating the problem.

wait and watch.

I have tried everything posted in this thread, (Including ALDEREZ most recent recommendation). None fix the issue for me. I have 10 years of contacts and notes in contacts, etc. Its as though the Spotlight Indexing gets hung up on something. It works somewhat for names early in alphabet but not for those in contact list further down in alphabet.

Does anyone know if there is a link to communicate this problem to APPLE to ensure that they are aware of and working on a solution?

apple.com/feedback

I am told that the engineers read these emails. I submitted a frustrated form just a few minutes ago.

My solution for now was

1) turn off everything in Spotlight Search

2) soft reset (press power and home button at same time)

3) then in Contacts touch blue "Groups" button at top left. Select option to turn off all contacts. Wait 1 minute. Turn all contacts back on. Wait 1 minute. Try again and hopefully contacts will appear in search.

It worked for me, but a previous solution worked only briefly.

Also I just turned back on mail, notes, calendar and reminders in spotlight search. Hoping this doesn't make problems.

This is a problem for a lot of people, so expect it to be solved soon.

i THOUGHT the 9.01 fixed it but it only worked for a little while. what happens now is that it (somewhat randomly) will access my contacts but

ONLY THE PROPER NAMES that is NOT any contact where there is a company and no name associated with it (like 30% of my contacts)... so

i really can't use it. I tried everything too that was suggested here. This is an odd one, someone probably programmed "contacts" thinking

it's always about peoples' names and not companies...

await a fix

Question? Did any if these fixes work over the long terms? I have tried them all (thank you to the community for posting) but they all failed eventually. The last one worked (cycling hide/show groups in contacts) until, ironically, I deleted the contact I created as recommended by the first solution in this thread. So in short these solutions are the newest false gods in our Apple Religion. Only an act of the true god (Apple itself) can address this. For now I'm just referring to "spotlight search" as Spotty-Light search or #spottylightsearch. Take to Twitter and other social media because there is NO workaround for this.

Please let us know if any of your fixes are still working days later after you have changed your contacts.

Also call apple customer support and tell them. That they will notice.
