spotlight search iOS 9 contacts not showing in results

I upgrade to iOS 9 this week excited about the new search feature. The only thing I used spotlight for on iOS 8 was quickly pulling up a specific contact. It seems Apple has created a iOS that returns everything except the obvious result I'm looking for and when I search for a name everything under the sun returns except the contact card I am looking for. I feel like it should be called "unnecessarily complicated and unintuitive search." Is anyone else experiences this? Does anyone have a fix?

Try this:
Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings

This works. You will be able to make call or send text from the search results.

However, by doing this your wallpaper, ringtones, and other setting will also be reset to default. Data is not lost (WhatsApp Chats, Emails, etc. were all intact). Also I had to reconnect to wifi.

Trust this helps.

FOUND A SOLUTION! (At least for me):

settings > iCloud

Turn off and delete all contacts

Reboot

reenable iCloud contacts

After contact re-downloaded, the index appeared to be good.

Searching directly from within contacts still returns a better set of results, but at least spotlight now gets most of them directly from within contacts still returns a better set of results, but at least spotlight now gets most of them. End of the day for me, at least, iOS 9 and Smart Sito / Spotlight does a worse job than the iOS 8 stupid ones.

Still no problems here. Updating to iOS 9.0.1 solved this for me. Strange bug as it seems to happen at random. Actually I'm pretty impressed with the search results. If I'm looking for a contact is shows up the contact after entering 3 or 4 letters. If I'm looking for a calendar event it finds it too with two or three letters. Even the suggested website results seem pretty spot on.

I'm not sure but maybe it has something to do with cache too. I use Battery Doctor to wipe cache and junk from my iPhone. Maybe this helps for more people.

NOPE... NONE of the TIPs WORK FOR ME.... I HOPE APPLE IS AWARE AND WORKING ON SOLUTION.

Spotlight IS NOT finding most of my contacts still. 9/27/15 - Running iOS 9.0.1

I HAVE TRIED BOTH BELOW POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS AND STILL NOT FINDING CONTACTS as of 9/27/15.

Potential solutions (THAT DID NOT WORK SO FAR):

  • Go to Settings > General > Spotlight Search and make sure Contacts is on.
  • Go to Contacts > Groups and tap Hide All Contacts and then tap Show All Contacts.
  • If it’s still not working, try going to Settings > General > Spotlight Search and turn off all apps, then hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together for around 10 seconds to reboot your device. Now go back to Settings > General > Spotlight Search and turn everything you want, including Contacts, back on again.
