spotlight search iOS 9 contacts not showing in results

I am having the same problem and its very annoying that basic fundamental things are not working on this update to ios9

I Think I have the solution. In their eagerness to push iCloud Apple has set the default for contacts to iCloud. So in settings , contacts , I changed the default to gmail which i use. Also in the contacts app I went to groups on the top rhs and disabled iCloud contacts. That seems to work. I wish I had more of a handle on iCloud but in the meantime it's just an annoyance.

Thanks DoctorSaal. It worked! The search has been one of the greatest features of my phone. I have lots of contacts and added keywords to a contact to help me find them. So happy to have it back with your fix!

I'm having the same issue. But my spotlight contact searches are incomplete. Some names are found, others aren't. All are in Contacts and searchable within the app. Also, as a side note, it IS working on my iPad with iOS 9. Only on my iPhone 6 is it not working.

After reading most of the posts I added and saved a new contact into the "Contacts" App. Then went back to spotlight and was able to search for and find all contacts. Must choose "show more" if you have more than 3 items that meet your search criteria. Hope this helps.

Here is what I found. Go to your contacts app and click on groups. Do nothing, just click DONE. That should do it. Good luck. It seems like a re-indexing issue.

yep I read the whole thread, tried everything people said (Including putting in a new contact.. which it CAN find) still it's not working properly.

hope there is a fix soon. What I do is just go to contacts-search and that works fine. I really can't use spotlight for anything.

Installing today's 9.0.1 update seems to have fixed my problem.

Switching off all other choices other than contacts hadn't worked for me. I was getting just a blank screen like many others. I tried this fix and created a dummy contact, and then all others started working. Thanks.

i wonder if the issue is caused by updating over the air? to test the theory i backed up my phone with itunes and then did a complete restore. it seems ok now.. however i now notice ios9.0.1 is available... i might do that process again ftw!!
