Problems updating iPhone 4s to iOS 9

Earlier, this morning (Swiss time), I updated my iPad 3 to iOS 9 via iTunes (latest version, OS X 10.10.5) with no problems. Now I am having one helluva time doing the same thing the same way for my iPhone 4s. When I connect it to iTunes, I am informed of the new update. I select to download but not install. After some time, this message appears:

"There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone '...'. <reason>"

The reason given was first, "The network connection timed out," on subsequent tries, "An unknown error occurred (9006)." My antivirus program was not running, and neither was Little Snitch (prevents programs from "phoning home"). Finally, I decided to attempting the update over WLAN, and disconnected the iPhone and quit iTunes. On the iPhone I was surprised to find not the Check for Updates button but a screen informing me that the update was being downloaded. After some time, the screen changed to one informing me that the update had been downloaded, but doesn't tell me how to subsequently install it.

Any suggestions? I really hadn't expect so much frustration.

I am in the process of restoring from a backup, which I made just before attempting to update the first time. When the iPhone reboots i am greeted by a welcome screen and a slide labeled "> get update" or words to that effect. Not sliding it presumably would not have got me past that screen. I am not sure how far I will get, but I am expecting a bricked iPhone. Will update this when something happens. In the meantime I would like to know whether anybody else has experienced this problem.

Well, it's evidently still running iOS 8.4.1, but now it won't finish synchronizing with the Mac. I see that my music seems to have been synchronized back to the iPhone, but none of my photos have. It just takes forever wait for items to copy, then cancels the sync. This is not turning out to be a very pleasant experience. Anybody else experiencing these problems?

Well, iOS 9 is finally installed and all the photos have been synced to it. It turns out that the "song of praise" that describes the downloaded iOS 9 is so long, that the link to more information has room at the bottom of the page, but not the link to install. Scrolling down does the trick. So I installed it. After that I resynchronized everything. I had done that with the restore of iOS 8, but for some odd reason it hadn't downloaded all 21,000+ photos (only about 3,000), and then hung during synchronization. At that time I had disconnected the iPhone from the Mac as soon as both the Mac and the iPhone (in the bar at the top) didn't display the sync symbol, even though Photos claimed still to be synchronizing. Perhaps that was too soon.

At any rate, the problems seem to be solved. I am a but puzzled why the storage map on both iPad and iPhone show almost no photos (violet) but lots of other (yellow). Maybe I'm being penalized for still using iPhoto on the Mac instead of Photos?

I already experience that earlier, and I almost die becuase of that. I installes my iPhone 4s to ios 9. Yeah, I thought it was okay because I just updated my iPadAir2. But then when it appears hello and when I slide the unlock. It's just a few seconds and it appears the apple sign and hang on slide ugrade thing. I restore my phone using my HP laptop, you think it won't run? Oh, I installed iTunes that's why. Asian has knowledge tho then I restored my phone for several times, I tried the DFU mood but it doesn't work, then I tried to restart it with just the power off, again nothing. I already pressed the power button and home button, but it's the same result. I restored 4times maybe. For the fifth time, I restored it with just open power just ON the iphone do not turn off, and waited for it until its done. And lastly, the itunes appears to set up new iphone and woala I opened my phone and done. It's working!! But the bad news is, all of the files and data were removed. But its okay, at least your phone worked.
