Weird gray oval with a timer (0:00) over my "compose" box in Messages

I updated to iOS 9.0 on my iPhone 5s a few days ago. About an hour ago, a gray oval appeared over the top of the "compose" box when I want to send a text or iMessage. The oval covers the entire typing box, and has what looks like a timer (0:00) on the right side. It looks as if it is wanting me to record something. It's completely blocking the tying box, so I cannot see what I've typed until after I send the message. I can't find any way to make it go away.

I am pretty sure it has to do with a feature where you can hold the phone to your ear and siri will read your text from someone, it's called "raise to listen" I just shut that off and it fixed the issue

UHhwhy - thank you so much! I checked that & it was turned on, must have been on by default with the upgrade to iOS 9. I have now turned it off & we'lol see what doesn't happen Lol!

I went to Settings, clicked Messages,and then enabled Show Subject Field. The timer went away. I then went back after and then disabled the subject field and the everything was back to normal.

This is the new raise to listen and respond feature. Turn this off by going to setting, message, scroll down to audio messages and turn off raise to listen. Doing this will make it the way it was before the update. Cheers!

Jgod10, thanks, I wondered when another poster said they'd found that setting which i have turned off now. all the feedback has been great, I like that we can all support each other as some have more tech knowledge. 🙂

IT looks like the new 'Raise to Listen' setting was turned 'ON' by default after the iOS 9 update. Got to Settings, Messages, scroll down til you find the 'Raise to Listen' option, turn it off. It stayed turned off after I installed the iOS 9.1 update as well.

I went from the massive HIGH of Wales beating England in the rugby World Cup to chronic anxiety caused by this bloody oval.
