cant upload files on gmail

I am unable to upload files on gmail. When I click on the attachment icon, it only shows the main files such as desktop, music, documents etc. There is no sub folder where the actual file I want to attach is. This isn't working in both Safar and Firefox. HELP!!!!!!!

So I just found out i'm unable to upload any file from anywhere and not only gmail. I tried to upload a picture to my apple community account and im getting the same thing. Also on facebook the same thing happens. Is this something got to do with a plug in or Java (I read about something like that online). I am so clueless about these things lol.

When I clicked on desktop as you suggested, nothing happened. It just directed me to the main files. None of them shows a sub folder

As mentioned...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)

Any diff in Safe Mode?

It appears that the Genieo package — commonly referred to as "adware" — is installed on this box, with least two different versions of Genieo apparently installed. There's also what is probably some malware that's known by various names including Codec-M that you very likely do not want, and there's probably the InstallMac Otwexplain trojan, plus some other stuff that I don't immediately recognize and with very sketchy-looking names including com.748bee9ddabf3671.

FWIW, PepperFlashPlayer is a second Flash Player, for Google Chrome. That's probably legitimate, if that's actually the package distributed by Google. Some of the other bits in the Etrecheck dump are also probably innocuous and legitimate. But I didn't dig through the other entries in that list looking for other software that might or will cause problems, and there may well be more than what I've described above.

Adware and malware and trojans can play havoc with your privacy and security, and with system stability.

The (unfortunately-horribily-named) Malwarebytes package can probably remove the Genieo packages, and possibly some of the other stuff.

That written, there's enough junk installed on this Mac that I'd likely make a backup or three of the whole disk and particularly of my own login directory and its files and related, preferably on several different bits of external storage, and would wipe the disk and reinstall a clean copy of OS X from Apple, and would install from-source packages and applications, and would then migrate over only my local files — but not any applications.

Before you load anything here or make any changes or attempt to clean up the apparent adware and the malware (or the "nuke and pave" wholesale reinstallation of OS X), do please get Time Machine going, or some other backups. From the Etrecheck dump, there's no Time Machine backups for this box.

Usual sources of adware and malware are torrents and cracked applications, and packages that were downloaded from sources other than the Mac App Store or from the original developer's web site, stuff that claims to accelerate or secure or protect or optimize your Mac, or other such. Some of the free anti-virus or anti-malware packages are themselves problematic, and some of the anti-virus or anti-malware packages reportedly even install adware. Why find and go to the original provider's web site? Some of the major download aggregator sites are unfortunately filled with questionable and old software and variously with adware and other dreck, too.

Historically, both Oracle Java and Adobe Flash Player are common sources of security issues, and I'd either use a plugin blocker to prevent access to those until and unless you authorize it, or I'd remove those packages. Or wouldn't install those, if you erase and reload this Mac. FWIW.

TL;DR: I'd likely back up all my files from this disk, would wipe the disk, and reinstall OS X and known-good applications. I'd not carry over applications from this disk. I'd probably also change all of my passwords, including those to my mail accounts, web site logins and other such.
