The easiest way I have found is to download a free EXIF editor such as http://www.colorpilot.com/exif.html

Plug the phone in, open the EXIF editor and using the editor, browse to the Folder containing the photos that are tagged as "Selfies"

Select one of the photos and in the right hand pane of the editor, you'll see a tab that says "EXIF". Click that and a whole stack of data about the photo appears. The two relevant fields are under "Lens" and are at the bottom of the "Lens" data block. One refers to the F-stop and will be a series of figures .... double click that and it will come up with a block that shows 2.15mm (lot more figures but the first 4 are 2.15). Delete the tag.

Next tag is the very last tag in the Lens data block and will identify the lens used - in this case it will say "iPhone 6 (or whatever model) Front camera" - delete this tag.

Your "selfie" has now disappeared from the selfie folder as the iPhone no longer identifies it as a selfie

Note to Apple - please give US, the customers, control over how photos are managed and stored ......

Unfortunately those new features that Apple added as a dead giveaway does annoy a lot of users, like me too.

There is no way to delete pictures in Selfie or Screenshot folder, neither single pictures, nor the whole folder.

Also the proposed solution to create a new Album/folder and add Selfie pics into it, then delete all selfies in the Selfie folder,

apparently DOES NOT work. Delete icon stays greyed out and cannot be used.

So the only solution to get rid of Selfie folder and Screenshot folder is to synchronize Photos in iTunes and to delete all photos on iPhone through this action.

If you want to reintegrate the photos you have deleted before again into your iPhone, it will most likely retain the same structure as before, i.e. same Selfie folder and content, same Screenshot folder and content. So you MUST get rid of ex- or imported Photos, that are classified as Selfies and/or Screenshots, to avoid that these folders are recreated.

Anyhow, the declaration of Selfie as an Selfie by Apple seems to be sold to users as a feature, I find it utterly annoying. I myself would like to decide which folders are being created and deleted, a preconfigurated unchangeable solution by apple is not an added feature. Especially not, when it introduces more steps to manage Photos and folders and thus costs the user more valuable time. It seems that Apple has lost the view, that Steve Jobs used to have!

The only way I've seemed to keep it at bay is to find what the photos are in 'Photos' on your mac. Then download 'ImageOptim'. Drag those photos into 'ImageOptim' and it will strip the metadata that makes the iphone sort them into selfies and screenshots. Then replace those photos in 'Photos' with the stripped ones and re-sync your iphone. The folders 'Selfies' and 'Screenshots' should be gone.

hi, every other method didnt work for me accept when i deleted the picture of my photos app thing on my mac then unsynced the photos from itunes which usually comes up with an option to erase all photos from your phone (which i clicked yes) then i resynced my phone back to the photo library app on my mac and the photo was gone from the selfie album

Hoping Apple employees read this forum.

This is why I don't trust iOS updates. Unwanted features with no opt-out.

Let me speak frankly: Apple has created a folder of nudes of myself, placed a thumbnail in my (anyone's) face every time I access my photos, made it impossible to delete or hide them.

What this says to me is:

1) Apple does not conduct user testing on new features. Real users would have voiced concern.

2) Apple does not have a diverse product innovation team. Women would have put the kibosh on this.

3) Apple is tech and engineering focused, and doesn't understand the difference between something being technically possible and something being boneheaded and rife with unintended consequences.

A humane and much-needed feature would be the opposite: hide my nudes from anyone browsing my photos, or let me select photos to be "invisible" unless I access a certain setting or second level of security.

Instead Apple has made it my problem. For example: my phone's speakers recently completely stopped working. I can use headphones, but there's no sound on speaker. I'd like to get the phone fixed. But first I'd have to go through & delete all intimate photos. Because not only is there no "hide" feature, they're all nicely organized & available via a single click.

And this is much more specifically a problem for women than men. Most hands-on tech support will be by men. Most law enforcement is men. Last year a bunch of California State Troopers got busted stealing & sharing women's selfies when they took their phones during traffic stops. Many men have been busted copying/sharing women's photos when they accessed their phones for tech support. Doesn't happen to men, no matter how many dick pix are on the thing.

Guaranteed that this feature has led to selfies placed on revenge **** sites or held for blackmail to get more nudes or rape. Guaranteed.

Because Apple doesn't understand how people use their phones in this society, or the dangers women face because some engineer wanted to show off this cool feature and force it on everyone.

I agree, I can't stand all these useless albums! It's so frustrating that I am not allowed to delete these off my own phone.

The predefined smart albums would not be necessary, if Photos on iOS devices would allow to create custom smart albums. Apple did not include user defined smart albums and opted to provide a basic set of predefined smart albums. The most user friendly solution would be to let the users define their own smart albums, and add the ability to sync smart albums between devices. Then the existing predefined albums could easily be made optional.

That answer is incorrect and you do NOT have to learn to live with it.

Now I absolutely agree concerning Apple forcing things down our throats, but as Apple workarounds go this one is pretty easy :)

Just download for free one of the many many apps that store photos, the one I use is Photo Vault.

The problem with apples photo system is and will always be that when you create a new file like "kids" and put a picture in it from camera roll,

it doesn't delete it from one the file and reinstall it in another, it simply mirrors it, so you now have TWO locations!!! So that to me is the most frustrating.

Apple claims they do it so as not to take up too much space having double photos but once again Apple doesn't understand that that should be MY choice as to whether or not I choose to delete the original photo and not be forced to It.

I guess Apple has never heard of a delete button?

So Apple designed it to force you to keep it because you know, photos are soooo difficult to delete.

Anyway once you have this other app all you have to do is take all your screenshots and put them in this other app because the only one good thing Apple did in the strong arm maneuver was the file will disappear if nothing is in it.

Videos, selfie's, screenshots, if nothing is in those folders it will disappear. So what I do is simply transfer all of that stuff to the other photo app and then it disappears and all I have to look at is camera roll and recently deleted
