upgraded to ios 9 USB audio to car not working Uvo Infotainment System

Upgraded 3 out of 4 devices to ios 9, none of them will play Pandora (latest version) thru the Lightning to USB connected 2016 Kia Uvo infotainment system. My final device on ios 8.41 same version(latest version Sept 18,2015) of Pandora, plays fine, the screen goes black it has the connected logo and I can use Pandora. Occasionally the USB IPod connection in the infotainment system will not even pick up the iPod music. But it does work most of the time. With the advent of ios 9 apple installed a carplay settings in the settings. I would hate to think that apple is forcing people to use CarPlay only its an expensive brand new car. Hopefully its a bug. Anyone else with an in car audio "infotainment" system having this problem? I've seen reported issues on Mazda and Subaru websites as well.

Of course, if you restart the device the dock connector audio works again for some undetermined amount of time.

This worked for me: go into "Settings / General / Restrictions" and disallow CarPlay by toggling the switch to OFF.

Now restart your device and the dock connector audio should work more consistently.

I suspect that over time a CarPlay service crashes on the device, but I haven't had a chance to look at the device logs yet.

Another helpful nugget I use to get dock connector audio to work again is to open the Music (iPod) app and close it from the App Switcher then press Mute via the car's headunit, wait 2 seconds, then press Mute again.

Pandora was the problem for me!

I have a old '99 Explorer with a fairly new kenwood deck installed. Everything was golden until iOS 9.2. Got that same "check device" error on my kenwood deck as others are describing, immediately after the update. I tried everything including a hard reset on my phone, and deleting my iCloud account completely, after every other option to keep iCloud was exhausted. I de-selected "show Apple Music" on both my 5S and my PC, shut off CarPlay, toggled off and then back on my Bluetooth... I tried everything!

Over the next couple days, driving around changing songs on the phone itself (which I could get a traffic ticket for!) I got a clue from the kenwood deck.

I noticed how everytime I got that pesky "check device" error, my kenwood deck would display "Pandora" for a split second right before the error displayed. So I deleted pandora, re-started my phone, and...... Voila!!! Good to go again!

I'm no code writer, but it looks like there's an issue with Pandora after the update to 9.2. So is this issue Apple's fault? Or does Pandora need to release an update??

I have a Pioneer AVH-X4700BS head unit, and before the iOS 9 update (and for the record, I went from 8.4.2 directly to 9.2) when I connected via USB, my iPod would start playing. After the update, it launches Pandora, and it's flakey.

I cannot find anything that would show that Pandora is a priority, or anything on how to change back to playing my music instead. It's a bit frustrating.

The only change is the iOS update. The head unit has had the latest firmware installed since April, and I do check constantly to see if another version is released, but right now, the culprit has to be iOS 9.

It really wasn't worth the update.

I had the same issue. I resolved the issue about an hour ago by removing the passcode lock from my phone -- all options became available and were fully functional. The only feature you will be unable to access using the UVO system with any iOS device is the option to have UVO read your messages.

hope this is helpful to many of you looking for answers 🙂

(Afterthought... perhaps i should let you know im using a 6s+ and running 9.2.1)

i meant to reply to the original poster. I apologize. Either way, give this a shot and see if it works for you. I work for a major wireless carrier and data transfers are my specialty. I almost always find a workaround.

If possible, remove all previously connected devices from your systems memory and install updates, if any, per manufacturer instructions. Once you've done this and your system restarts then pair or sync your device. If there are no updates to install try a system reset. Be sure bluetooth on your device is turned OFF and you dont have any cables connected to the unit via USB prior to attempting any of these troubleshooting steps.

**if this doesn't work.... remove all paired devices from your bluetooth connections menu under settings. Removing the paired devices first is vital!** You'll need a fresh, never-been-used flash drive/USB memory stick and a computer with an Internet connection (wireless or wired, doesn't matter). Log in to your car manufacturer's website, or create an account if you haven't done so already. By adding your vehicle to your owner account using the VIN you should be able to gain access to the most current version of UVO for the system in your vehicle. Kia's website walked me through it and, assuming the other sites are designed the same way, it's super easy. I had to download the UVO installer to my computer and it allowed me to save the software update to the flash drive. (just trying to emphasize the importance of the order here..) Next, if you haven't done so already, ****REMOVE ALL PAIRED DEVICES FROM YOUR CONNECTIONS MENU AND UNPLUG ANY USB OR AUX CABLE.**** Turn your vehicle off completely so all systems shut down. ****BEFORE POWERING THE VEHICLE BACK ON***, plug in your handy dandy flash drive. go to the settings menu in the infotainment system -- check for updates or view current version will be your next step. If "view current version" is the option you see you will be able to select the option to update the version you've installed on your flash drive. The system will then scan the drive for a newer version and begin updating to the software you previously installed to your flash drive using the computer. Do not attempt to use the infotainment system or the rear backup camera (if equipped) while this update is taking place. It is probably best to do this when you have some free time and aren't planning on driving somewhere right away.

I have read warnings on other forums regarding the matter that you should not try to install an update to your system that is specific to another system (i.e. you have a UVO audio system without navigation so you should not try to install an update for a UVO system with navigation. I haven't tried it and wouldn't recommend it.

roklem33,

Deleting Pandora also solved this dock connector issue for me on iOS 9.2.1!

This solution has been running strong for five days of dock/undocking 🙂

I dug a bit at my iPhone's device logs in Xcode expecting a crash log from Pandora, but there was not a crash log so I suspect this is a bug in the Apple External Accessory Framework (https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/featuredarticles/ExternalAccessoryPT/Int roduction/Introduction.html) and if someone wants to stare at your iPhone's rolling console log to find the related error messages here's the how-to: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/qa/qa1747/_index.html

Thanks roklem33!

I just came back from my Suzuki Car dealer. My Infotainment Centre got an update and now everything works like it should be. How can Suzuki advertise Carplay Support if it only works with an update. I also contacted Apple Support to let them know it was not there fault. I am happy now and will not update to IOS 9.3 and then wait on an Suzuki Update if it would not work again.

I hope i can help somebody with this.

This solved the problem I've had connecting my iPhone 6 to the audio system of my 2016 Acura RDX w/Advance Package via the USB or iPod inputs ever since I got the car on Christmas Eve 2015. The dealer did not know about this "fix" the last time I asked. I tried everything--or so I thought. I'm one of those weirdos who don't download music files onto their phones. I just listen to podcasts and streaming internet radio channels. Everything worked fine via the Bluetooth and Aux inputs, but I know from prior experience with other cars that the Lightning-to-USB connection provides the highest quality audio.

At DaveyDutch's suggestion, I downloaded one album to my phone from iTunes. That immediately solved the problem. Now I can listen to everything from the phone via the RDX's iPod input. The sound quality is indeed much better--glorious, in fact! This car has a wonderful audio system, especially now that I can use the iPhone's Lightning-to-USB output!

Thanks much, DaveyDutch!
