upgraded to ios 9 USB audio to car not working Uvo Infotainment System

Upgraded 3 out of 4 devices to ios 9, none of them will play Pandora (latest version) thru the Lightning to USB connected 2016 Kia Uvo infotainment system. My final device on ios 8.41 same version(latest version Sept 18,2015) of Pandora, plays fine, the screen goes black it has the connected logo and I can use Pandora. Occasionally the USB IPod connection in the infotainment system will not even pick up the iPod music. But it does work most of the time. With the advent of ios 9 apple installed a carplay settings in the settings. I would hate to think that apple is forcing people to use CarPlay only its an expensive brand new car. Hopefully its a bug. Anyone else with an in car audio "infotainment" system having this problem? I've seen reported issues on Mazda and Subaru websites as well.

download your ios version for your device.

plug into itunes

hold shift and click restore iphone in itunes, a window will pop up so you can search for the IPSW file that you need to downgrade

And when you try that, iTunes checks the signature with Apple and finds that it's unsigned and automatically downloads the latest version. This only works while the version you are attempting to install is still signed by Apple (usually about a week). The only iOS versions that are signed now are 9.0.1 and 9.0.2.

I am pretty sure I have found the cause of why car audio systems are not recognizing any files via iPod mode when connecting via USB and trust me, it has NOTHING to do with your car audio system needing to be updated with new firmware and this most definitely is an Apple Music bug!!

I have a new iPhone 6s with ios 9.1 which after the latest ios update no longer would connect to my 2015 Kia Sorento Uvo system. My wife has a iPhone 6 also on ios 9.1 and her phone worked as it should with no problems in the same vehicle over USB. Then I realized that her phone has a playlist in Apple Music that was synced via iTunes. My phone does not have any music stored on it at all. I quickly synced up with iTunes and put an album on my Apple Music. Voila, problem solved!! Car audio recognized the iPod source over usb and played anything I wanted from Netflix to Youtube to Pandora and Apple Music Radio. All audio worked over USB, regardless of the source! To be sure this wasn't a fluke, I again synced my iPhone 6s and removed the mentioned album and was back to square 1 where nothing would work over USB. This clearly confirms that this is an Apple Music bug and has nothing to do with your car audio's firmware. Hope this helps....throw some music on your device and it should work, at least it did for me!

Fingers crossed

I have an iphone 5s and since the IOS 9.1 upgrade two things happen... I can't see my photos over USB on my computer- the only way to back them up onto my PC is to download them from the cloud (big PITA!!)

Also I just bought a 2016 Chevy Volt and the Projection icon doesn't turn to Apple Play when I am plugged in via USB, nor will the car play my itunes music over the speakers when connected via USB (but plays the music fine over bluetooth when USB NOT plugged in)

What do you mean by "Playlist in Apple Music"?? is that something diferent from a regular iTunes playlist?

Help Help!!

Well the update worked for me, and if I understood you correctly you say you just need to sync all the content to the ipod, which I already did when the problem started for me.

I can't say that what I did will solve it everywhere, I can just say that from the day I updated the car multimedia system everything works great, I can also say that before I did that update, the song title on the screen will be stuck on the first song that was played, now the name changes, I also wasn't able to change songs from the wheel, which I now can.

I can't comment on your 1st issue with regard to syncing with your PC. Your second issue is very similar to mine where all plays fine over bluetooth, but nothing works over USB.

By playlist I meant a playlist that was synced to the phone from iTunes. I noticed that if I had music stored in the "My Music" section of the Apple Music app, all would work fine over USB. as soon as the my music section was empty, the car audio would say that it could not find any files and and would automatically kick me out of the "media" source on the infotainment system. But when the my music section actually had music stored, everything worked fine, including all other media such as Pandora, Spotify, Apple Radio etc.

It seems there are various different versions of the problem depending on the phone (5, 5s, 6 & 6s) as well as car make and model. What I was told by Kia America that the bug is Apple's and they should hopefully have a patch in ios 9.2 as long as enough people report the problem to Apple. Just think of the 10's of millions of firmware updates car manufacturers would have to supply between all the makes and models each time there's a new ios update?

This all started with the very first upgrade from 8.x.x to 9.0 and apple introduced Dre's Apple Music which (imo) ***** to begin with. At the time the same thing happened with regard to USB and there was a lengthy work around process which included deleting the device from bluetooth on the infotainment, hard reset of the iphone, plugging it back into the usb port, hiding Aplle Music in settings and a few other steps which fixed the bug. But as soon as I went from 9.02 to 9.1 the issue was back!

Where did you find the Uvo update?? I have looked everywhere and even Kia claims there is no firmware update for the Uvo in my 2015 Sorento. They told me there is only an update for the system that has navigation which I don't have....

How do we report issues to Apple? I have tons of music on my phone so that can't be my issue. The Wireless pocket charger on my Volt doesn't seem to work either so maybe I have a hardware issue to boot. Taking it in Monday to have the delaer look at it... meanwhile I'll keep plinking around. Sometimes once I have the bluetooth streaming going I can plug it in and it will keep going, other times not... Hope to GOD Apple fixes the computer not recognizing the phone as a USB for backing up photos because that is a major pain in th ebutt!!

I have a 2014 Honda Civic and an iPhone 5s. Since I bought the car in October 2014, the audio link software has worked well with integrating the call, hangup, and voice command buttons on the steering wheel with Siri and it also seamlessly included iTunes so that I could listen to my audio library. After the iOS9 update, all of this stopped working. The USB cable will not even charge the phone anymore.

Same issue here. Upgraded my 6 to iOS 9.1 in the last week or so and it intermittently connects in our 2013 Infiniti G37x. Most times the screen in the car says Check Connected Device. It also won't even charge. When I can get it to connect, randomly, it usually then freezes up in a few minutes when trying to advance songs using the steering wheel controls. If you unplug and re-plug back in you just get the Check Connected Device screen again.

A bit more success in our 2015 Durango but even then, sometimes, the screen just is blank in the car and it won't charge. And to answer another post, I have songs on the phone like suggested and it still doesn't work.

The idea that this is not Apple's issue is hilarious. All other versions of their operating systems worked so why, when they developed iOS 9 couldn't the make it work with car software? The idea that dozens of car manufacturers have to adapt to them is funny. I talked to Infiniti and they said that it's an Apple issue.
