Stuck key on 12 inch Macbook keyboard

I'm not adding anything new. I have the exact 'key sticking' problem and I'm on my second Macbook because of the issue and now have the same problem again with my new Macbook. Very frustrated.

I have two somewhat different issues.

My keyboard is definitely sticky. Some keys get stuck down, but usually pop back up. But more than than the whole keyboard feels sticky and doesn't work well. I am a good typist, or was, now my typing is terrible. I can't tell if it because you really have to slam the keys on this computer.

Also, while I am typing, the cursor will jump around. So when I am typing on a line, suddenly I will be typing farther up in the text. I have been extra carfeful not to touch the trackpad, but this is an on-going thing. Has anyone else experienced this?

Mine too - 3 months old and return key is stuck.... :-((

Yes, I have exactly the same issue. Not only is my 'l' key starting to stick, it only responds to clicks in the top half - I also have the very annoying and intermittent cursor jumping going on. Anyone else with that problem? I found one thread with a couple of messages, but the best advice was to clean the trackpad, which I have done but to no avail.

Same problem here. I am now on my third 12" macbook. Had the other two replaced because of sticking keys -- one edge of the key would get stuck down and no longer press-able. First the delete key. On my next machine the right shift key. On my third machine I checked all the keys very carefully before I left the store and they all worked. Always one edge or one corner that failed. Now the left shift key failed three days ago, and today the right arrow key stuck at the bottom left corner.

Last time I took it to the genius bar they said it was some sort of problem with the rubber membrane and they'd have to replace the whole thing. But this has happened on three different machines now! This is bad enough that I am planning to trade this machine for an older Air or perhaps a 13" macboook. There seems to be a serious design or manufacturing problem with the keyboard.

I had this problem on my left shift key, but only one side. It was intermittent too, but eventually got stuck. I tried lifting the keys with a spudger – which I do not recommend, felt like they were bolted on and lifting them far would break them. I blew some compressed air into the narrow gap between the key and the top case, and the air sort of worked the dirt (crumb?) out.

If you have some compressed air or a camera-blower or something, it could be a quick fix that saves you from a trip to the Apple store.

I am also on the second repair this time because the "delete" key got stuck in one corner. As I said before this is a design flaw and I think Apple should design a set of Velvet gloves just to work with this interesting but finicky keyboard, because any dirt or grease that our fingers have, make the keys get stuck. The gloves of course would have to be complimentary 😉

Yes, cetainly only lifting the edge of keys with a very thin plastic, in my case, a somebody's plastic name card, is alleviating the symptom. If you lift a little bit harder, then the corner pops up, but it will click back again if you push again. I suspect dirt or hairs seem to be stuck and interefered with that 'butterfly' mechanism.

I am having the same issue with sticking keys. First it was the o key, then 0 and now R. I have an appt today with a genius. I recently started to use this as my only laptop after I sold my Macbook Pro 2013. Hope this isn't an ongoing issue with the new key design butterfly mechanism. Seems like many of us have this issue with over 4000 views?

Yes. I had a stuck return key after owning the computer for 2 weeks. I brought it in. They sent it back to apple to get fixed and they replaced the whole keyboard. I also had problems with the wifi so they replaced the logic board too. I picked it up this past Friday. By Sunday, the Tab key is now sticking. This keyboard is horrible. I'm going to have to bring it again and see what they say. I'm guessing they will tell me I need to send it back again.

Yup they sent mine out yesterday and told me they would be replacing the keyboard. Seems like a design flaw to me if so many of us are having an issue with short time use?

I actually just fixed my key! I used an acupuncture needle to carefully "unstick" it without damaging it. I've at least saved myself a trip back to the Apple Store...
