This is ridiculous. I have resent e-mails to myself that had the error of "This message has not been downloaded from the server", they show up with the entire e-mail message for a day then I go back in the next day and receive that error. I have important e-mails that I save on my phone for traveling but now they are rendered useless. I have looked all over the place for a fix but all I find are IMAP/POP suggestions. I didn't change a single setting in my mail app yet once I upgraded to IOS 9 this issue started.

As I said in bullet 4 of my précis I have already tried this and it did not work for me. After approximately 12 hours the emails that I successfully forwarded from my iMac archive reverted to the "This message has not been downloaded....". This experience has also be noted by other posters on other threads. I would not rely on the emails in the newly set up account remaining there for long.

As an aside the trick to getting the pop option has been a badly kept apple user secret for some time. I am also worried that server storage costs or some such incentive has driven apple to attempt to move people to imap.

HI Will 616, thanks for your fantastic summary of the POP mail problem across all these discussion threads and including the feedback to Apple link. Hopefully Apple will hear from all the affected users, and release an update.

If Apple wanted to discontinue using POP in its IOS9 Mail app (not sure why it would ??!) but just say so, and give us a chance to save our historical emails and attachments (content that is now forever lost), then roll it out.

POP is not wrong, or "old", it's just a different way of managing our email and doing things, which had worked perfectly for us until this update.

I Just discovered something that may be helpful. If you go into you mail server and go to advanced there is an area called delete from server. The new update changed my settings from never to when removed from inbox. I changed it back to never but still cant get back the emails i lost. Let me know if this works for anyone else.

Reference the delete from server setting. i have checked the settings on all our devices and disappointingly they are unchanged (never delete) and the issue remains. For your info we run a family setup where the mobile devices are all set to 'never delete' so all members of the family can download and retain their own version of any email. The family iMac is the only thing set to delete from the server. This means the iMac is the master archive. This also means that emails do not remain in a less secure email server indefinitely as any compromise of the email account would be much worse if they also had access to all the info in our emails. Once the iMac has downloaded then the mobile devices can no longer download but that's the only catch. We all cc sent emails back to the relevant account so that even when something like this happens we haven't lost any sent emails either. Obviously if this had affected the OS X on the iMac (it may still do so at El Capitan upgrade) we would be in the same boat as everyone else.

yep all of the above Im having same issues. spoke to Apple and they are trying to fix and have rang and emailed me during the day getting different info and screenshots of my phone. Not updated my ipad so emails are still coming through fine on that and nothing has changed. They better get this sorted as its so messy.

I have opened up a gmail account and just sending stuff through to that as I receive from my pop account so it doesnt go missing as Gmail isnt a pop account. My Pop account though is my default account and is with TPG they only have the pop accounts so cant change it

Nice work providing the detailed feedback to Apple - that sounds really positive. Did they give any indication why they hide pop email setup behind a convoluted wwork around? Are they actively trying to migrate users off pop or was it an oversight? Does it sound like they are going to continue to support pop setup in the future?

Ok yesterday went to Apple Store as well which they restored my phone And deleted everything. Then used a icloud back up from earlier though this had worked initially but still emails were being deleted and disappearing. After 10.30 today found on phone for some reason when checking for a new back up noticed that it hadn't finished the backup restore it was supposed to do from yesterday so pressed stop restoring and since then the phone has been behaving. So far from 11.30am today when I check the backup button on iPhone and notice it couldn't back up because it was still restoring the phone from the day before it seems to be behaving. Cross fingers that if I wake up tomorrow hopefully no more missing emails. Will keep you updated to see if the restore and backup has worked. In the mean time Apple has emailed me at 1.30pm Perth Australian time that they are still checking it out and will update me.

in the mean time if the restore on iPhone and the glinch on the backup has worked will let you know. Apple Store thought there was as originally a problem in storage on iphone and it was saying I had more storage than I actually had so the update was done with very little storage and may have created the email problems. Not to mention also photos on icloud also a problem and blurry as not downloading correctly neither.

I Have same problem. iPhone 5s, updated to iOS 9 - since then I can view email attachments but when I go back they have vanished, shows message, not downloaded from server. Spoken to Apple on a number of occasions, changed settings on POP3 accounts to 'never delete from server' but made no difference.

Apple say they have not heard of this problem! Not good enough Apple. Anybody got any ideas?
