Iphone 6 Plus iOS 9 text screen greyed out

Go in settings, messages, and turn on the number of characters. Worked for me, don't know why !

I have this same problem, only fix I have found is to restart the phone. 😟

No need to restart your phone. If you don't mind losing your chat history, delete the chat message. The grey box will come back thou. Another thing I've using is use Siri to send voice to text messages until the bug is fixed.

I turned off the "raise to listen" button in settings and that worked for me.

I have this issue as well. I found that killing the Messages app and then re-opening it seems to temporarily resolve the issue. Hopefully Apple fixes this soon.

Thanks, a temporary solution of powering down and on again. This is really killing me as I rely on text for professional team communication and not being able to see the screenlines greyed out is maddening.

I am having the same issue in addition to my text alert sound & fb instant messenger sound not working. It will show the text in the "banner screen" that I have a new text but will not make any sound. I have checked several time to make sure I did NOT have the vibrate/silent mode on. I have assorted to turn off my phone and held the home/power button to "reset" it with no change. very frustrated as I text ALL THE TIME!!!

Does anyone use the "password" app & if you do will it really back up to iCloud so if I try resetting my phone to factory setting it will retain all my passwords saved in the app?

OK, nothing that has worked for me except for changing the keyboard. change it from QWERTY to QWERTZ kezboard. Oh ueah, don't forget the kezboard is setup different or zou will be tzping like this is zou know where all the kezs are bz memorz. Hehe
