iOS 9: App Store requires password for free download

Since updating to iOS 9, I get prompted to enter my iTunes password to update apps or download free apps. I have it set to not require passwords for free apps, and I am logged into the App Store

I have tried logging out and back in a number of times, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Does anyone else have this issue?

Lawrence Finch, indeed, it seems you're right, didn't consider the technical aspect of the email account actual "owning" side by reading the minimum age requirements. Thank you for pointing this out!

Nevertheless, IMHO the solution with the separate Apple ID account for a child is just a kind of workaround to the issue this discussion is about, as it just allows the child to be aware of the password to download free apps. Besides, such approach is less likely to be found and applied by majority of parents, who just want to restrict their children with the unfit content, as it requires quite an investigation, googling and reading such discussions like this to discover Family Sharing and use it for that purpose. Please, correct if I'm wrong.

OK, a point that has been missed is that two different people should NEVER share an Apple ID. When the same Apple ID is used on 2 different devices all data on the devices is shared. So if your child uses your Apple ID on their device they can see all of your emails, texts, contacts, calendars, notes, documents in iCloud Drive, who you called and when, your love letters to your spouse and/or significant other, the apps you have, the websites you have visited...No matter how much you trust your child, I am sure there are things in your life that you would prefer that they not know. But sharing an Apple ID, they will know.

Totally agree. I just once again want to point your attention to the discussion subject. It is not about Apple IDs, it is about the iOS failing to allow downloading free apps without asking the password, even if Restrictions setting for allowed content indicate so. Even if I specify separate Apple ID for the child, as soon as I set the App content age restriction, iOS will start asking the password for free apps event if I set the "Free Downloads Require Password" setting to OFF.

Maybe I'm missing something? How to restrict the content of the App Store and allow to download free apps without asking password at the same time?
