Macbook pro mid 2009 won't finish starting up

My Macbook pro mid 2009 started acting very slow, the fans would be exhausted even when it was at rest and it would get hot, and the charger also would get hot but not extremely so. All of the sudden it did not finish tasks, it started preparing for them but never actually do them, so I restarted it. Now it will start up, the apple screen appears but the start up bar gets to about a third and then it stops there. I've tried reseting the SMC several times, I've let it rest a day and so far nothing.

Hello! This thread is well over a year old but I'm hoping this will still come to you. I am having the same issue as this user BUT nothing happens when I press the Command-R key, other than a 0 w/a slash through it. Then it goes back to the apple logo and the start up bar that stops half way through. Please help!!

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.

When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the indented Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.

Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless and more reliable.

Alternatively, see:

Reinstall OS X Without Erasing the Drive

Choose the version you have installed now:

OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X

OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X

OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X

OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet

if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Thank you Kappy, I've restarted it like you said, repaired the disk, it appears to be ok, now I'm repairing permissions but there's a warning: SUID file will not be repaired system/library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOs/ARDAge nt

What can I do with that? It has appeared before
