Windows 8.1 doesnt let me update iTunes to 12.3.0.44

I tried to update my iTunes to the latest version i.e,. 12.3.0.44 x64 on my Windows 8.1(64bit). It always shows up this error message shown below and just stops the update 😟. What does this mean? Do I have to remove and reinstall iTunes?😕 or is it the problem with my Windows 8.1 OS? My OS is 100% genuine. Please help me.

If I have to remove & reinstall iTunes, will the sync of my iPhone 5s on this computer be lost?

I can't solve your problem but if you have to remove iTunes and reinstall then your synch is not lost - if you are worried about it though then back it up.

Path is

Windows C drive/Users/name of your PC/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/Mobilesynch Just copy that file to somewhere else on the computer until you have finished and if the original file is still there you can delete the copy. I often back this folder up anyway just in case.

You may need to remove all Apple stuff from your computer, see the linked page and do it in the order they list otherwise it doesn't work properly.

Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support

For that error message first try repairing Apple Software Update, then try the installation again. If that doesn't work read on.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version, or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues, or for compatibility with QuickTime or third party software on 64-bit systems.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

If the issue persists and you have a 64-bit system try the for older video cards version which is a 64-bit installer for mostly 32-bit code, similar to all 64-bit versions of iTunes up to 12.1.

If you've tried the above without success then see the method in Install missing components. What component fails to install, and what error message does it give? See this post for steps to produce detailed logs of the installation which may reveal why iTunes won't install.
