Finally, this solved this issue.

I've contacted some developers and they redirected me to Apple Support and none of them found a solution for this.

Apple Store is also a native App and have the same issue. Follow baba19981's solution worked like a charm. iCloud backup don't need to finish up, just start it. My iCloud don't have enough space to make a full backup so I wait iOS say not enough space and after that Watch native apps worked. Weird but my sadness by not using a lot of apps have finally ended,

It seems like the baba19981 solution worked for a lot of people, but it did absolutely nothing for me, even after repeated attempts. As of right now I am unable to find a viable solution (even the Apple Store App just spins and crashes every single time.

If this is in fact a fix like so many have claimed, I am wondering why it isn't being worked on in an update as a fix, especially with 2.2ios being released. I have had this problem since last fall, and have yet to find a single solution, including hardware replacement. I am 100% sure that this is a software bug that has been lingering for quite some time now. I will update if I find anything, but it has been months and months of troubleshooting to date.

Although some suggestions here have reportedly resolved this issue, others have reported that - although suggestions here initially seemed to have worked - the same issue later recurred (for example: after installing an update for an affected app).

If you are affected by this issue, you may therefore wish to let Apple know by :

I have spent countless hours with Apple Support (chat, phone, senior advisors, data collection) without any success. I am sending a second feedback message right now, but it seems like this issue has been known (since September 2015) and unfortunately has been avoided for quite a long time.

Any thoughts on how to get a software engineer to take a look at this? I've had a few data collections, but basically have been told that the team did not further investigate the problem, as the whacky music solution seemed to fix the problem for many. It would be nice to have 3rd party apps working, as I currently am restricted to non native apps only, which makes the watch experience a rather poor one 😠.

the solution introduced here does not work because as soon as you sync your music back to your iphone the native apps on the apple watch stop working again, i don't believe anyone that says that solution method above worked for them because i just tried that workaround with the music removal and that solution only works if you dont sync music back to your iphone, as soon as music is synced back to the iphone native apps stop functioning on the apple watch

For me it seemed the important step, after connecting iPhone to iTunes on my Mac, was doing an iCloud backup. Those who say it isn't working, are you doing the backup?

I deleted all the music and synced (via iTunes). So the watch now had NO music on it. I then did an iCloud backup. As soon as that backup started, I saw the watch started working with 3rd party apps.

I would note that Apple engineering did contact me about this, and had me send them log files (they talked me through it). Sadly, they never ever bothered to come back to me after receiving the files, which was pretty poor. Not a word. As it turned out, I figured it out with the method above.

Yes, I am doing both encrypted and iCloud backups with no music on the phone or the watch. That didn't work, so I reset the watch (power), still nothing, then I repaired the watch without any luck, and set up as new. When I set up as new (the phone and the watch), I was able to get Facebook messenger/Apple Store App to work for a few days, but once I reloaded music playlists on my phone, I was back to where I started. It is somewhat of a requirement for me to have music on my phone, so not syncing it back is not really an option.

I also sent log files to engineering that seemed to go nowhere. I followed up with a senior adviser a few weeks later and he basically told me that engineering didn't even look at them. I created a new case about a week ago and was told I would hear back from engineering soon. I'll post my findings when I hear back.

Here exactly what I did:

1- Detete all Music from Settings>General>Usage>Mage Usage>Music>Edit>Delete all songs

2- Open iTunes, select Backup to This Computer and check the Encrypted box. Do a backup and wait until it finishes.

3- Back to iTunes, check the iCloud backup. Start a backup. Seems that iTunes prepares a backup before send it to iCloud. If you have enough space, let it finish. Since I don't have enough space, just waited until iTunes warning that says that I don't have space.

4- Check Apple Watch and everything is working. Weird!

5- Set my iTunes back to My computer backup and synced music back again. Thins still OK on Apple Watch

If someone is opening a ticket with Apple, they always say to contact the developer. You can say that Apple Store is also a native app that doesn't open.

Hope everyone can make it work and use all those Apps that have such more powerful features than the others.

Good luck.

I am also having the same issue and I am waiting to hear back from software enginnering at this point. As previously stated, every solution mentioned on here has failed, and a hardware replacement has not solved my problem with the native, 3rd party and Apple Store watch apps which continue to not load. Non native apps and built in iOS apps seem to work just fine, however.

Apple Watch doesn't open native apps on WatchOS2.
