Sometimes there's no sound on notifications after iOS9 update

So I updated my iOS devices (iPhone 6Plus, iPad 4 and iPod Touch 5) with the new iOS 9 on 17th September and since then I have noticed a weird thing. For most of the apps such as whatsapp, viber, Facebook Messenger, Gmail and some games (for which I have set the notifications as active), there's no notification sound but still the notification comes up on the screen. This happens even with the native messaging app (whether I send a text or iMessage). When there's another notification from the same app, then notification plays the sound or at times the sound stutters for multiple notifications from same app (e.g.: whatsapp group texts).

So anyone else facing the same issues? Does anyone know a solution? I have tried restarting, restoring and updating my devices to iOS 9 again and the mute buttons on my iPhone and iPad weren't ON while facing the issues. The volume is at max level.

I guess its already time for Apple to release iOS 9.1 fixing the issues.

iOS devices that were updated:

iPhone 6Plus - 128GB

iPad 4 - 64GB

iPod Touch 5 - 16GB

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9

Thank you. This worked for me, strangely enough!

"i solved this (now running iOS 9.2 on my iPhone 4S) by resetting the network on my iPhone.

when doing this, first make sure "Do Not Disturb" is turned off - Settings > Do Not Disturb

Then reset the network on your iPhone - Settings > General > Reset > choose Reset Network Settings.

That's all I did and it returned all my Notification sounds etc.

I hope this helps"

I've been having this problem since a previous update.

I used to use an app called "Pill Monitor" to remind me to take medication - it was one of the most useful things the phone did.

This hasn't worked for a good while now. The notifications appear on the screen but it doesn't come out of idle or make any sound.

Upgraded to 9.2 last night. Now the notifications don't work at all.

Off in search of how to jailbreak the iPhone and revert back to iOS 8 or 9 - does anyone know with certainty which was the last version where the notifications worked properly?

in my experience, every time I update my iPhone (beta), I would do hard reset thereafter because many people solve their problem using that method, this is highly recommend if something goes wrong.

for this question, you have to check if you accidentally enable mute button (AssistiveTouch) or "do not disturb", if not, then probably you have your. volume turned down to zero!

MY iphone 5c was only vibrating most of the time when I should have been getting notifications. It has been puzzling me for a long time. As soon as I read the posts about Bluetooth I realised what the problem was. The phone was connecting to a Bluetooth receiver in the house, and muting the sounds. I turned the Bluetooth off and the sounds are back to normal. Many thanks to the person who came up with this solution.

lock sound toggle no worky here lol

IMHO It is a do not disturb issue. it gets turned on when it is not supposed to be on. I have this feature come on between 1am and 6am. i have gotten up for work and the half moon is still there at 7am. I go into the quick control panel and toggle the half moon and it stays on screen no matter how many times i toggle it. Then i noticed after a while the moon disappears making me THINK it is off but it is not. This is why alert and the ringer are silent for me randomly (though ringer rare and it appears people in my contact list get through but no one else does which is how i have the scheduled do not disturb set up and another reason i think it is a do not disturb problem)

Also i decided to test the opposite. toggle the do not disturb many times but leave the half moon there. Now text my phone from another phone and the sound GETS THROUGH when it should not but let the phone sit for awhile and then text and sound does NOT get through.

this leads me to believe the feature is randomly getting toggled somehow behind the scenes and the graphic side of it is not seeing it.

Low level stuff.

Those that never use the feature never see the half moon on screen but i bet randomly activated (you just do not know it visually) thus cutting sound.

i just installed 9.2.1 beta im crossing my fingers lol
