Sometimes there's no sound on notifications after iOS9 update

So I updated my iOS devices (iPhone 6Plus, iPad 4 and iPod Touch 5) with the new iOS 9 on 17th September and since then I have noticed a weird thing. For most of the apps such as whatsapp, viber, Facebook Messenger, Gmail and some games (for which I have set the notifications as active), there's no notification sound but still the notification comes up on the screen. This happens even with the native messaging app (whether I send a text or iMessage). When there's another notification from the same app, then notification plays the sound or at times the sound stutters for multiple notifications from same app (e.g.: whatsapp group texts).

So anyone else facing the same issues? Does anyone know a solution? I have tried restarting, restoring and updating my devices to iOS 9 again and the mute buttons on my iPhone and iPad weren't ON while facing the issues. The volume is at max level.

I guess its already time for Apple to release iOS 9.1 fixing the issues.

iPad 4 - 64GB

iPod Touch 5 - 16GB

I think you might be onto something there. It's either that or it has something to do with the power management features.

I did have "Do not Disturb" turned on, on my phone, and don't recall doing that myself. Perhaps I did, and just never noticed.

However having turned it off, the icon has gone, and I haven't seen it again, even after reboots.

I'm also seeing apps crashing a bit like you'd expect on an Android device (that being the reason why I got an Apple one) and the email collection seems a bit sporadic. The phone is also visibly much slower and more glitchy in use.

I haven't got around to it yet but I'm led to believe that you can download an older version of the OS and forcibly overwrite the one on the device with it so I think I'll do that and just hope it doesn't go horribly wrong and leave me with no device at all.

Hi Groovyzep (or anyone else who has tried),

Any luck getting sound notifications for mail etc. on iOS 9.2.1 beta ?

I have an iPhone 6 but decided to stick with iOS 8.4.1 because I had problems upgrading in the past, and I read about these issues.

Despite this, I now find my podcasts aren't syncing properly across devices. Also, I sometimes get a temporary white screen with the Apple mark when using the native Podcast app. I read somewhere that this might be to do with me using an old iOS or old iTunes.

I am currently thinking of giving in and taking the plunge with iOS 9.2.x.

Probably screwed either way - yet again!

Anyway, has the sound notification issue finally been resolved with iOS9.2.1 beta?

well Im not gonna say it is fixed but since my last post on the 18th, it appears I have gotten sound every time.

I have not been tracking 100% so all i can say is i have gotten sound every time Ive had the phone with

me. The rest of the time its the old question

if a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it make a sound? lol

This weekend ill do the mega texting test see what happens and if it fails or not.

I have seen this issues talked about for Months and of Course not one bit help from Apple. I have seen lot people mention things like ear phone jack, etc. It's not anything with the phone, it's Apple update. If you turn off Bluetooth in settings your notification sounds will start to work. It's seems to me that my Bluetooth - iWatch link is causing the issue. Once I remove this link - sounds work with phone off and locked.

I am not suggesting to keep Bluetooth off, just pointing out the Apple needs to fix this.

That is not the problem. I do not use bluetooth. it is ALWAYS OFF. As has been stated it is an INTERMITTENT problem.

If you have no sounds at all it is not the problem we are talking about.

and as posted above many times it will work fine then not work just seconds later with NO change to bluetooth or any settings.

It is a low level iOS issue and apple devs already said so in the dev forums.

Groovyzep,

You mentioned that you planned to do your "mega texting test" at the weekend.

Did it work? - has iOS 9.2 brought back reliable sound notifications? I need them and push mail for the native mail App in particular.

My iPhone 6 using iOS 8.4.1 is crashing now due to an issue with the native Podcast app but I still hesitate to upgrade, because of the sound notification issue.
