Sometimes there's no sound on notifications after iOS9 update

So I updated my iOS devices (iPhone 6Plus, iPad 4 and iPod Touch 5) with the new iOS 9 on 17th September and since then I have noticed a weird thing. For most of the apps such as whatsapp, viber, Facebook Messenger, Gmail and some games (for which I have set the notifications as active), there's no notification sound but still the notification comes up on the screen. This happens even with the native messaging app (whether I send a text or iMessage). When there's another notification from the same app, then notification plays the sound or at times the sound stutters for multiple notifications from same app (e.g.: whatsapp group texts).

So anyone else facing the same issues? Does anyone know a solution? I have tried restarting, restoring and updating my devices to iOS 9 again and the mute buttons on my iPhone and iPad weren't ON while facing the issues. The volume is at max level.

I guess its already time for Apple to release iOS 9.1 fixing the issues.

iOS devices that were updated:

iPhone 6Plus - 128GB

iPad 4 - 64GB

iPod Touch 5 - 16GB

OK, this is going to sound weird but my husband and I who both have I phones with this problem. We'Ve worked out that it's nothing to do with operating systems etc...it's an intuitive thing! Message Notification sounds won't be activated if you are still in the response screen from the person who messaged you. I think it's so that you don't constantly get annoying sounds if you are having a back and forth SMS conversation. There seems to be a time limit (not sure how many minutes ) on it not making the sound because after a certain amount of time it will work anyway....hence the intermittant nature of the problem. If you go out of the response screen to the message screen it will make the message sound. So, you just have to get used to not leaving your phone on the response screen. This would also explain why people who did a whole bunch or technical wizardry said it worked for a few hours, days etc and then went back to an intermittent fault anyway. We spent a good half and hour working this out! Try it with a friend....it's been fine since we realised this.

no that is not it not even close. Have you read the thread? It is iOS as ive explained and the Apple devs have confirmed.

When phone goes to locked screen auto or i put it there by hitting the power button, alert sounds are random as well as incoming calls

ring tone. This is not about Message Notifications while you are in the message app. It is about ALL notifications in the locked screen.

What you are talking about is basic messaging which you do not get a sound when you are

in the chat actively texting back and forth. what you get then is the ... bubble to let you

know someone is typing. No sound is played when that happens as you are considered in active mode.

I just got off with AppleCare. They suggested that sharing an Apple ID may be the source of the problem. Initially the conversation I had with AppleCare was about settings for sounds,do not disturb usage, iCloud and other things. They had me reset network settings and reset all settings but neither of these solutions worked.

I am hesitant to set up a new Apple ID. You all know how long it takes to adjust all of your settings to your liking, Set up mail, set up apps, backup photos first etc. so… I am on the fence. I guess I will need to take the plunge and try their proposed solution at some point. We have three family members sharing our Apple ID currently. Apple support suggested that this is not a good situation and may be the cause of these problems and others. They suggested that iCloud sharing with so many individuals could put a wrinkle in proper operation of the phone. They said to get separate Apple IDs and use family sharing to share purchased music and apps. That's what I was told today. Please let us know if anyone finds an alternate solution. I will let you all know if I take the plunge and set up a new ID.

Resetting the phone seems drastic to me. Sigh.

interesting but i think they are full of it. lol (at least in my case) I have 1 Apple ID per iPhone ( i have 2 iPhone)

no sharing. everyone has their own accounts.

How the heck can sharing an ID cause no sound in a notification alert? or no ringing sound when

someone calls? did they say how?

Can it cause other problems like backing up game info when 2 people play the same game. YES

but this problem i doubt it. (and the iOS dev team already said it is an low level iOS bug)
