Sometimes there's no sound on notifications after iOS9 update

So I updated my iOS devices (iPhone 6Plus, iPad 4 and iPod Touch 5) with the new iOS 9 on 17th September and since then I have noticed a weird thing. For most of the apps such as whatsapp, viber, Facebook Messenger, Gmail and some games (for which I have set the notifications as active), there's no notification sound but still the notification comes up on the screen. This happens even with the native messaging app (whether I send a text or iMessage). When there's another notification from the same app, then notification plays the sound or at times the sound stutters for multiple notifications from same app (e.g.: whatsapp group texts).

So anyone else facing the same issues? Does anyone know a solution? I have tried restarting, restoring and updating my devices to iOS 9 again and the mute buttons on my iPhone and iPad weren't ON while facing the issues. The volume is at max level.

I guess its already time for Apple to release iOS 9.1 fixing the issues.

iOS devices that were updated:

iPhone 6Plus - 128GB

iPad 4 - 64GB

iPod Touch 5 - 16GB

I've been having this problem too. I actually noticed along the way that I could go into Sounds, and if I clicked on my text tone, it wouldn't play anything, if I clicked on others, they would work. It was hit or miss on whether other tones would work. This morning, I woke up, same thing, no text tone. I went into sounds, clicked on my tone, no noise. I turned bluetooth off, then went and clicked on my tone, and I heard it. Turned bluetooth back on again, and I could still hear the tone. I assume at some point today it'll stop working. This is an iOS 9 issue, never had it before this. Keep reporting, eventually they'll fix it.

HI,

EVery bug I have found so far and have reported have been looked up and resolved. I have reported this one as well of course but the more people are reporting it the higher they'll put it in their priority list. The link to the apple bug report website is in my previous responce. Feel free to report and hopefully in the next patch they'll fix the audio decoder bug.

Cheers

I am a crew member for Marine Search and Rescue. Like others on my crew with iPhones we rely on our phones to alert us in the event of an emergency. Since iOS 9 myself and others on my crew (and my family) have had this exact issue. So far my missed notification sounds have only been for things like taking out the garbage and such. However, if these alerts fail in an emergency, it could mean the difference between someone living, or dying.

I have submitted this bug report every week since upgrading and it has yet to be fixed. I have reinstalled my phone from scratch, turned off bluetooth and tried using default sounds. So far nothing works.

My fellow crew members have been talking and have been contemplating either attempting to downgrade to iOS 8, or perhaps ditching iPhone in favour of Android. If we can't rely on Apple devices, or Apple to recognize and fix this issue, we may have no other choice.

I called Apple Support again yesterday and asked the agent outright if she had heard of this issue - she said NO. I then asked if there was some repository or something where these issues get logged when they are reported by multiple users, she said there was but that this issue was not on that 'emerging issue' list. I told her there are multiple online threads and articles discussing this behavior, but who knows what will come of that. I am truly surprised that many users are reporting this issue, yet Apple doesn't know anything about it. I don't know if people aren't calling to report this, but I would encourage any of you who haven't called Apple Support to do so. I don't think feedback and bug reports logged on the website are going to cut it. I know it's a pain, but we gotta make some noise if we want to get any traction.

Their only suggestions for me were to restore and set up as new, or swap the device at an Apple Store. I hate dealing with the Apple Store so I went thru the process last night of setting up as new. I'll monitor for a few days and see how it goes.

This is a REAL problem in IOS 9.01. It has happened to both our iPhone 6's. I overslept this morning because when the alarm went off and there was no sound. Restarting the phone does fix it but Apple needs to fix the root cause of this problem. It's a bug in IOS 9.01.

The BS answers don't help the folks using IOS. We don't need to troubleshot anything except for Apple continuing to push out faulty software.
