Is MBAM-mac a real apple anti-virus download or is it malware waiting to trick me?

Is MBAM-mac malware or is it a real anti virus program from Apple? Last week, I downloaded the new OS: Yosemite and ever since, I've had a couple of malware threats. I went to Support at my Apple store yesterday and the man there fixed everything and downloaded a real Apple anti virus program. In this new OS, though, Chrome does not seem to be a good browser for me. Instead of going to Google, it brings me to Yahoo and today, when I searched for google, (through Yahoo) I spelled it wrong and a malware threat turned up. I forced closed and it seems to be gone, but I'm afraid to use Chrome again, so I'm using Safari. Problem is, I don't know what anti virus program the Apple guy gave me. On my download history, this MBAM shows up but, I suspect it may be today's malware lying in wait for me. Any suggestions and help will be appreciated!

iPad Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Regarding taking the advice of an anonymous stranger on the Internet, please be advised that, by self admission, Mr. Davis, as much an anonymous stranger as anyone, has never tested this program, which is he is ever intent on disparaging and warning against, on his own computer, and therefore, by definition, can't possibly know what he is talking about, not at least in any meaningful sense. Besides vague generalities, all the specific information he provides about it is either second hand, irrelevant, misleading or simply false (because based only on its Windows cousin), or from links to posts claiming that it has caused problems--all such posts either thoroughly discredited or highly dubious and unproven.

Furthermore, by not testing this program on his own system, something for which he has adequate skills, but yet which he continues to refuse to do, he is in violation of the Apple Support Communities Terms of Use

You should not use "anti-malware" software even if an Apple Support representative suggests it. Bad advice is bad, no matter what the source.

What is your definition of 'anti-malware' software? Though the name 'Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac (formerly Adwaremedic) might suggest that it may me an anti-malware application. it is not. Clearly the confusion lies on your end due to an apparent lack of understanding what this application actually is. I understand that the wording is not the best but I do urge you to do some investigation before posting inaccurate and confusing information.

Considering the number of inaccuracies presented by Linc Davis, upon what foundation do you make this statement? Considering the number of times that I have been forced to issue corrections, those 'skills' may be suspect.at best.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your opinions, knowledge and thoughts with me here. As it turns out, I called Apple Support last night and they did that thing they do where they can be on your computer screen with you over the phone. MBAM is what the technician the day before downloaded for me, so now I know. So far, every Apple expert that has helped me has been very patient and well, helpful! And, most importantly, all is well on my MacBook and I have learned alot from a number of people.

Is MBAM-mac a real apple anti-virus download or is it malware waiting to trick me?
