Google contacts iOS 9 sync problem

After 4 days expecting my contacts it appears that iOS needed oil. I signed in my account three or four times and that solved the problem. I have my contacts notes but still have problems with reminders.

Could you give a little more detail? Once at Settings, iCloud, then what? Turn on Contacts (even though I don't use iCloud)? What spinner?

We're talking Google Contacts here (I think).

I didn't get that either. Apple messed up. That's it.

I have the same problem. All my contacts are on google. To get Contacts sync with google, I tried what flavfac suggested and go to Settings->iCloud, then the spinner wheel will appear on top status bar, and somehow it starts syncing my google contacts. You could also try turning on (or off) iCloud contacts (which I just set up with only one contact), which seems to work for me. It's closest thing to the "not working" Refresh button. Hope this helps..

Great, thanks! This forced a sync of my contacts too - even though the Sync instruction is in the Calendar section. Go figure!

Tried both: iCloud (from flavfac) and other one (delete google account on iphone, disable google 2-step, power off, power on, add google acount again)

Not work ... very frustrating!

May Apple will enable the manual sync of the contacts on the next iOS release? or can we forget this functionality?

On my iPhone 6 iOS 9.1. Under Mail, Contacts, Calendar, then under Fetch New Data.

Turn off Push

Turn on Fetch

Open Contacts and the recent contacts I entered in Google Contacts synced immediately.

Change push settings back.

Turn on Push.

Resume use of iPhone.

Repeat when adding new data to Google Contacts.

Well...it worked for me today. No promises about tomorrow.

I have all my contacts sync-ed to Gmail. I'm using iPhone 6 upgraded to iOS 9.1 over the weekend. Disaster, lost contacts. What I did:

1. Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Gmail -> Switch OFF Contacts sync -> "All gmail contacts will be deleted from iPhone" -> DELETE.
2. Checked contact list, all empty.
3. Went back to step 1 to switch ON Contacts sync in Google.
4. Went back to contacts, instead of that refresh icon on the top left that does absolutely nothing, I saw "GROUPS".

5. Select "GROUPS" check and un-check "ALL GMAIL".

All my contacts came back.

How about this work around... Create a contact called Aaa. Whenever you need to manually sync select Aaa, click notes, click a letter and then select return to contacts. I.e. you can edit a contact's notes without having to click the edit button. If Aaa is the first contact in your list or marked as a favorite you are only one click away from Aaa's notes. Changing notes changes the contact which updates google and at the same time picks up any other changes. 4 clicks is better than nothing.

I am having the same issue.

I can not find any contacts when I want to. So what I do is I go back to groups leave out the check and put it back. And than ist works.

Everytime when I do it it irretates me.

I just got a new iphone 6s after years on a trusty Android phone, and am facing the exact same problem regarding Google contacts sync. My hundreds and thousands of contacts on Google are not syncing to the new iphone. Calendar, photos and messages have all synced fine, but contacts, which is the most important item, has not synced at all. I have tried every solution to this problem that has been suggested in this thread. In addition, I have spent 3-4 hours on the phone with Apple tech support who have also basically given the same solutions, but to no avail.

I must say I am terribly disappointed in this much vaunted Apple. I was really looking forward to my first Apple product, a brand new cutting edge iphone, but it is unable to perform the most basic feature, i.e. seamless syncing of contacts with Google. Even the cheapest available Android phone in the market is able to perform this basic feature which my new iPhone can't. As a long-standing Android user, I am most disappointed in this failure by Apple.

Google's contact feature is world class and I want to continue using it on my iPhone. I don't want to make Outlook or iCloud as my default contact storage. Sadly, this poor functionality of iPhone is not letting me do this.

I feel like I just should gift this phone to my old mother, because without dynamic syncing of contacts this iPhone is only good for playing video games and taking photos.

I just added a contact on iPhone. Did not sync to either my Google account or iPad.

On iPhone, I then went to Settings >> iCloud and hit "Contacts" button, making it green. Waited 2 seconds then turned it back off. Went to Google, new contact was there, but still not on iPad.

Went to iPad and did same procedure (Settings >> iCloud and hit "Contacts" button, making it green. Waited 2 seconds then turned it back off). Contact then was also now on iPad.

Doesn't make sense to me that iCloud >>Contacts switch would trigger sync with Google, but seems to.

Unfortunately "It just works" no longer applies to Apple. These goofy "fixes" reminds me of Windows XP.......
