iPhone 6s Distorted Sound

Hello All,

I have just received my iPhone 6S (iOS 9.0.1) and i'm really enjoying the new features, however I've noticed that when I have my Ringer Volume turned up full there is a slight crackling/distortion when playing sounds from the bottom external speaker.

The best way I've found to reproduce this issue is by going into settings, turning the ringer volume to full (having the ringer volume anything below full will stop the distortion) and then playing the ringtone "Opening", the speaker will make a minor distorting sound at the high points of the ringtone.

I've spoken to a friend who has a 6S Plus and they have reproduced the same issue, I would like to ask if anyone in the community could try the ringtone above and let me know if they get the same problems with the speaker?

Thanks in advance

Craig

I am afraid that is a hardware defect and Apple not want to admit it, but still have a glimmer of hope that can be software. The problem is that many people should have this problem, but few people bother to complain or many do not know they have This problem. We have to get together and complain, apple has to solve the Situation, we are talkin about expensive equipment, premium., we can not allow these type of things.. I've already sent my feedback to apple team via the apple site, do the same please. Agnes Obel track is one of many, that play well without problems on iPad , iPod touch and lots of smartphones that I tried and on iPhone 6s specifically distorts, it's a shame. Do something !!!!!!

Hi,

So i did the ios 9.2 beta beta public update and :

At 65 % battery - ios 9.2 beta :

Slowrise and opening : no more distortion at full volume.

I think they have decreased the volume of ringtones or something like that...

BUT : huge distortion on YT music video :

Try " Canon in D (classical guitar) per-olov KIndren" for exemple

Agnes Obel songs ( chords left, riverside etc)

Daft punk the game of love

Videos with PIANO or Classical guitar are sounds horrible !

😕

I think it's hardware and the speaker quality is really really bad. Shame for a product like that.

I had the 3gs, 4s, 5s and NEVER experienced this kind of issue.

Shame on Apple , this is very sad !!! We have to make them see that the hardware MUST be changed people! We have to make them do a recall to factory or something like that ! I will send my iPhone 6s to garanty everytime until they solve this problem ! poor quality of speakers! I will tell everyone I know with iPhone 6s and plus to test and see if they have the same problem that we have.

HI All,

I have the same audio distortion in all the aforementioned scenarios with my 6S with the addition that I notice it most whilst listening to spoken word podcasts.

I reluctsntly tried all the messing around with settings and even a factory settings reset to no avail. I subsequently tested this issue with 6 other 6S's from colleagues and family and all have the same issue. Although I don't like jumping to conclusions this looks very much like a hardware issue, most likely the audio amplifier over driving the speaker and/or rubbish speaker quality. Will be calling Apple Tech Support tomorrow just for the **** of it but don't hold out much hope.

We honestly need someone decently big in the media to address this, because then it will have a stronger following. Most people are just oblivious and think it's normal, when in reality it's a flaw in the design and poor choice by Apple to put out such a device due to expectations of customers. Someone has to know of someone "famous" who would be willing to post via Twitter or something.

I called Apple. They asked me if Bluetooth was on because that's been causing some sound issues. It wasn't. They wanted me to reset my phone which did not make a difference. They wanted me to bring the iPhone in to an Apple store for repair. There is no store near me so they are sending me a replacement. I will update the thread on whether the replacement is any better. I am not that optimistic based on what I'm reading here. However I did receive my original phone on the first day they were available so it was certainly part of the first production batch. There has been time for fixes in production. Has anyone replicated the issue on a more recently purchased 6s?
