You have two output bypass, one for just a speaker. Since
the unit has an amp in it, it will drive a 8 ohm speaker.
This output is just for a speaker, plugging it into
another amp will damage the second amp. The second
output is for an amp, this one bypasses the internal amp.
so you can have you normal setup intact. The Talk box sound
will only come through the mic in front since that is where it
is created and captured. There is a downloadable owners
manual on the website. It shows some suggested
configurations. It is worth reading the reviews on it. You can
plug it into a mixer or PA just be careful of feedback.
It is built like a tank.

I've tried the Rocktron Banshee with a Novation Bassstation Synth and it worked extremely well! Just plug it in, adjust the Levels and the Tone, put the Tube into your Mouth, Play Notes on the Keyboard, speak without speaking, and Record everything through a Microphone...
One thing - The Banshee has a built in Overdrive, so unless you're turning the Drive Knob down to zero, you will always have some amount of Overdrive (which is actually a good thing, 'cause it creates more Overtones). The Golden Throat doesn't have this built in Effect, so the EH users put an Overdrive Pedal in Front of the Golden Throat. Check this:

I think California Love was a vocoder? An obvious example is Bon Jovi's 'Living On A Prayer'. Any live video shows the guitarist (forgive my ignorance of Bon Jovi members) using a talk box.

I personally made my own: A box of 3/4" oak with a 4inch 4ohm speaker mounted on a baffle inside. The tube is mounted around 4 inches infront of the cone. The box is completely passive and relies on an external amp. It works a treat and looks unique with its brass screws and felt seals!
