Can't connect to P2P networks, (Acquisition, Acqlite, iSwipe, Poisoned Etc.

I have a Mac Mini and am currently running version 10.4.4 and I share an internet connection via airport cards in my computer and my father's computer.

My problem is that I can't connect to any of the popular P2P networks and I have tried disabling the firewall in both my computer and his, (because it is his connection). But I still can't "connect" to any network. It is probably a firewall problem and it is probably incredibly simple, but I am a bit new to that whole side of things. Do I have to open a certain port on my computer, his computer, or both? Is it something other than the firewall? Thank you very much for the help.

You do have to open ports on both... is there a Router involved, or what does his connect to/how?

He uses sbcglobal DSL and I am 95% sure there is no router. I tried opening both ports on his computer and there is still no response.

Let's step back a moment.

You are sharing the internet connection through your father's computer. Is that right?
And is his computer a mac, or a PC?
And have you gotten internet in general working through this arrangement? Or is nothing working through this hookup?

Yes, I am sharing a connection through his computer.
He has a Mac Mini as well, and is running 10.4.4.
Internet in general is working, I can use my browsers, email, and chat applications, but Acquisition along with other P2P apps. are not working.

next silly question.
When you're sitting at his computer, can you do this p2p stuff?

Between his computer and the highSpeed modem...is there another box? that would be the router that BDaqua asked about.

I have not tried doing any P2P on his computer because he doesn't want anything illegal done with his computer, even though I am doing it all over his connection. If it would help, I could go try.....

And there is no router, only the DSL modem and his computer.

"Illegal Stuff"...?
I'm out.

As long as you're doing illegal stuff, the "P2P police" will be tracking your father's IP address on his SBC network. You might want to tell him

You are on your own to do the troubleshooting and stuff.
You'll be fine.
If others here would like to help, they're welcome to.

I guess I should have figured that apps named "Swipe" "Acquisition" "Poison" might indicate some level of "less than legitimate". Should have done my homework.
Sorry I was led down the primrose path on this one.
