Excessive Mobile Data usage after iOS 9 update - System Services - General

Hi,

After updating my iPhone 6 to iOS 9 and 9.0.1 I have seen that the mobile data usage has dramatically increased.

After taking a look at the usage of each application (Settings/Mobile Data) I see that over 1/3 of my total usage comes from the "System Services" in particular from "General". I've seen a lot of people have had problems with the Wi-Fi Assist function but this is not my case as I turned it off the moment the update was completed.

The usage grows by days and as the "General" category provides no further information I don't know how to limit this.

Thank you for the help!

Excessive data usage is common when you download iOS 9 on your iOS device.

Apps updated on its own - that's one reason.

And the other reason is this new feature that Apple added to iOS 9, which is called WiFi Assist.

Disable it to stop iOS 9 from sucking your bandwidth. You can find the tutorial here: http://ios9news.net/stop-cellular-data-usage-charges/

Let me know if this helps!

Hey @fernandoolalla. I dont know if you already found the solution for it. But i think there is a permanent sloution for your problem.Go to settings, click on the icloud and switch off icloud drive and your problem will be gone forever. its not the wifi assis. It is the icloud drive which is consuming all the excessive data. Let me know if that helped you!:)

I also got this problem with my new iPhone 6s and iOS 9.2.

System Services eat up over 1 GB per day ... /-: !

That is not funny, if you have to pay 20€ for a 5 GB renewal.

Turn of Wifi assist was the first thing i did with my new iPhone.

I also tried:

- Turn off mobile usage for iCloud

- Turn off iCloud completely

- Turn off Background Activities completeley

- Turn off Siri

Nothing helped!

After installing My Data Manager I could look up data usage statistics on an hourly basis. So I recognized that the data consumption always got extremly high, when I was moving around. Today I made an experiment and turned everything back on and turned only location services off.

Result: Mobile data consumption went back to the normal level.

Now I want to track down which app causes this enormous data usage or if it's a general location services problem.

Anybody else here, who could stop the problem with this solution?

PS: I also had the WhatsApp backup problem, but because the backup cycle was only once a week and I mostly was logged in via WiFi when this happend, this wasn't the main cause for the data usage.

I Figured out that a bug is making the updates from AppStore to use your cellular data if your wifi is too slow or in my case change between two routers, in the 4-8 seconds of disconnection causes my problem, my actual fixes are

1.- Disable Automatic Updates in Settings>AppStore & iTunes > Updates

2.- When updating apps disable data usage in Setting>Mobile Data>OFF

HAve tried for as much as 4 months and in a week of enable updates it comes back

hi gusy, it is my problem too... But on mobile data and wi-fi

since upgrade to ios9

I turn off all auto download, auto update, background app refresh, send data diagnose to Apple , Siri and sign out from AppStore, Game Center, iCloud, find my iPhone and....

i Install an app from appstore (systemmonitor) for monitoring my connections, i see my iphone download from 17.253.1.202:20480 or differrent ip that all of them start at 17.253.xxx.xxx (all refer to apple.com or aaplimg.com)

iPhone 5 ios9.2 16gb

I use iPhone 6 and early Jan' 16, I upgraded my OS version to v 9.2 and my data usage became unexplainably high. Last night I received my Singtel bill for the period of 11 Dec - 10 Jan and I incurred 22.5 GB data usage, on top of my 3GB monthly data plan. I called Singtel and was informed that they will check and get someone to call me back . I received a callback this afternoon and after this female CSR gave me tips on how to reduce my consumption , she was also kind enough to waive off 50% of my excess data usage.

I never really monitored my data usage but I decided to monitor it because of this "BILL SHOCK". Last night, I found out that it was still ok( 691 MB from 12 - 20 Jan, 2111hrs ). Today, 21 Jan '16 at 1643h (16hrs after), I checked again and it jumped to 18.47 GB. I called Singtel, I off my cellular data and called Singtel again as I know something's not right and I believe other customers may also experience this issue as well. The guy who answered sadly did not even offered to investigate further and just say there's nothing much they can do about it. I was then offered 1GB waiver for the billing period which means I still need to pay the excess data usage I never really enjoyed at all because I never really used it. I hope someone from Apple and can pick up the issue real fast.

Hello,

I don't think WIFI assist is the issue - however no harm in turning this off.

Settings and App Store - Ensure the use mobile data is switched off.
Also I have noticed the iDrive option all of a sudden has enabled mobile data to back up my apps photos etc. I believe this to be the cause of all of the issues we are experiencing.
