iPad Not Responding Since Update

My iPad 2 worked fine on iOS 7.

When I upgraded to iOS 8, it crashed, and was very slow, and non-responsive - this was typical for the range of iOS 8.x.x updates.

I was able to get back a small amount of performance by taking it to the Apple store where they completely wiped and reloaded it. I then had to manually add everything back in since I could not restore it. The overall performance was still poor.

With iOS 9, I hoped to recover some performance, however, I was sadly disappointed. I recently updated to 9.0.1, and it seems to have gotten worse.

Now, I can add app crashes, non-responsive screen, total system restarts, to the already slow performance.

Is there anything that can be done to correct this? Or is my iPad junk parts now?

Update:

I updated the iOS to 9.1 and it is slightly better - but only slightly...

Basically the crashes have slowed, but the performance is still slow when trying to go between programs - almost unusable.

At this point I have given up with it and gave it to my grandson (3rd grader) to play games on - about all it is good for now.

I am shopping for a new tablet and have been surprised at the offerings out there - a huge variety! I think I have had enough with Apple and the inability to go back to a functional iOS, I think I will try something else.
