iTunes 12 bug empties smart playlist

I spent hours using the new "heart likes", adding it to about 300 tracks. Then I created a smart playlist for all the liked tracks and synced it to my iPod Classic. But after the sync, the whole smart playlist was empty. At first I thought perhaps I had made a mistake, so I started all over again. Guess what, when I synced the smart playlist to my iPod Classic, all the likes disappeared once again, which means I've wasted hours using the heart likes.

I'm afraid to use the new heart likes in case I have to start all over again, so I'm thinking about going back to stars. Has anyone had problems with the new heart likes and does anyone know how to fix this? 🙂

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I gave up on the new heart likes and went back to the stars ratings. But now, that doesn't work either. iTunes automatically adds album ratings to albums that include a few tracks that I've rated individually. Therefor, the smart playlist is filled with album tracks I don't want there. 😟 I read that others are having the same problem, but I can't seem to delete the album rating.

Maybe I'll just give up ratings all together and use "grouping" instead, like you suggested. I just feel frustrated having to deal with all these problems. :/

How do I stop automatic album ratings?

Check for unwanted manual album ratings. The way it is supposed to work is that manual track ratings influence automatic album ratings, and manual album ratings influence automatic track ratings. If you only rate tracks you shouldn't end up with any automatic track ratings. And likewise if you only rate albums then you won't get any automatic album ratings. It is a shame the smart playlist rules don't allow one to choose whether or not automatic ratings are included.
