Why high CPU usage by iCloudServices.exe?

On my Windows 7 64 bit laptop iCloudServices.exe regularly jumps to 99% CPU usage. No data on iCloud Drive, iTunes not running and iCloud set to synchronise only Internet Explorer Bookmarks.

iPhone 6s Plus, Windows 7

I have Windows 7 x64 too, and I have iCloudServices.exe constantly using 33% of CPU despite no data to be synched.

As I want to access Apple notes on my Windows machine it would be good if I don't have to startup the service. It is enough to access it via a webbrowser. I can use mail and calendar from any platform, but not notes. I would like to see some kind of standard for notes so it is possible to access the notes from any platform.

When will Apple release next update of icloud for Windows?

Hey Mike!

Great idea!

Here's a bit shorter solution: a command to create a scheduled task to run daily at 8 am:

schtasks /create /tn "Restart iCloudSvc" /F /sc daily /ru System /st 08:00 /tr "cmd /c TASKKILL /f /IM iCloudServices.exe & start \"\" \"%CommonProgramFiles(x86)%\Apple\Internet Services\iCloudServices.exe\""

Just copy-paste to Start -> Run, ( or Command Prompt window - whatever you like) and press Enter

It seems that you don't need to run this service. I tested this and as far as calendar updates go, and it certainly runs OK without this service.

see http://www.file.net/process/icloudservices.exe.html

An update from Apple came up a few days ago which gave me icloudservices Vs 5.0.0.0 and iTunes Vs 12.3.2.35. Memory usage still crept up, but at a slower rate of about 100MB per day.

Will see how this (not running icloudservices) goes for the next few days and then disable it from autostart if all goes well.

Hi.

May 2016 - Any update on this issue?

I am running PC with Windows 10. Use iCloud to sync my Outlook with iOS devices.

All works well, but Task Manager shows gradual increase in Memory use by iCloud Services (32 bit) from about 30MB on re-start - which seems high anyway - to 250MB after 12 hours or so.

Memory use over about 60% in general seems to really affect performance, so I have to watch all processes.

Bit of a pain to have to stop/start iCloud services regularly to keep it under control.

If there is any more recent info out there, would appreciate a link.

Thanks!

Well how's this. One year and at least two "dot number" revisions to iCloud app for WIndows, and the issue is still not resolved.

PLUS... iCloud still does not work to synchronise contacts or calendars with Outlook 2013 or 2016. It was pretty bad with Win 7 / Outlook 2007, getting more and more flakey so eventually I bit the bullet and upgraded to Win 10 and OL 2013 (I had heard iCloud doesn't work with 2016, so I thought I was being clever) - now it doesn't even come close to working *AT ALL*. When you install iCloud then "configure" it to sync Outlook by checking the boxes, it rumbles away for a minute then comes back and says it is now synchronising. It lies.

So, all in all, unhappy customer. At least the phone suncs with the cloud, and I can access contacts and calendar in web pages, but that's not exactly ideal. For one thing, no address book in Outlook so I have to copy/paste from a web page all the time. FRUSTRATING!
