How do I hang up a call with iPhone 6 and iOS 9.0.1?

I feel so stupid. I've had an iPhone since 2012 with the iPhone 5, but after upgrading my iPhone 6 to iOS 9 (and now 9.0.1) last week, I cannot figure out how to hang up a call without logging in.

When i was done with the call, I used to just turn the screen on and hit the red button. Now, turning on the phone just gets me to the login screen where I have to swipe or put in my PIN, then make sure the phone app is launched and hang up then.

Surely there is an easier way to hang up calls.

It is the exact, same issue. I know because after searching Google for this problem, I read his post and thought to myself, "Wow, I have the exact, same issue." His was one of many others on the Internet, which is how I know it is not specific to my phone.

While he initially thought you figured it out for him and thanked you, go back and read his follow up post in October where he says specifically that the power button did NOT solve his problem. If he could've removed the solved flag I'm sure he would have. This forum seems a little light on features that way, for example I'm having trouble finding the report post to moderator button.

I do not need to restore my phone from backup to solve this. If you would bother reading and understanding the relevant portions of my posts and not just the ones that you feel somehow slighted your ego you would see that I figured out that this is a problem specific to users with headphones. I need to buy new headphones with a functioning remote. I don't like it, because it is hard to find great headphones with a great mic, but there you have it. Problem solved. Full stop.

Again, stop responding. Find other people to help and leave this one alone. It isn't about you; you can't fix everything. Inhale deeply through your nose, exhale out through your mouth, and repeat that to yourself several times before NOT typing another response to this post.

BTW - I like your cat avatar. Looks like an old Russian Blue I used to have.

Alright, I just took the time to make an receive several phone calls under a variety of circumstances and have found the following information. If you make or receive a call without the headphones, the device works as indicated, the screen does not lock. While it will dim, it will not lock, and pressing the power button will disconnect the call. If one has the headphones plugged in, the screen will lock after the designated period of time in your settings, however awakening the screen via the sleep/wake button, brings you to the lockscreen, and there is no button to hang up the call. You either need to unlock the screen, or press the button on the headset to end the call. The sleep/wake button will not end the call from there. It appears this is unique to the headset. It has been quite a long time since I have used the headset for calls, as I either held the phone to my ear, or I used a Bluetooth headset. Holding it to my head allowed for the buttons, and using the Bluetooth headset, I had a button on the headset to end the call, and the screen actually would not lock under those circumstances either. I cannot say for certain that the end button was on the screen or not, and I'm not here to argue that issue.

Either way, when the headset is not plugged in, the sleep/wake button will end a call, the screen will not go to sleep, and all of the controls, including the red end call button remain visible. While the headset is in, this is different, and I cannot comment on whether it was changed or not, and if it was changed, we cannot speculate on Apple's reasoning. It wasn't until well into your conversation that you indicated that you were using a headset, so what had been presented to you earlier, given the lack of information was correct.

Telling someone they aren't being helpful and asking them to stop when they actually aren't being helpful isn't an ad hominem attack. Calling someone unpleasant and not nice when they really just want you to stop bothering them would be. You want to help people and that is admirable, but then you took it personally when I told you you weren't helpful in this case, and you just, wouldn't, stop.

I asked you twice, politely to please stop responding and move on before finally just telling you to stop and yet you persist. In fact, I also told you twice now that it isn't about you, which would be the exact opposite of a personal attack. From your perspective you were trying to help me. From my perspective you were discounting my position that Apple changed the lock screen when I know for a fact that they did, assuming you had the answer when you didn't even have a complete grasp of the problem, and finally, just annoying me every time I had to come in here to see if someone had posted something useful only to find it was you continuing to tell me that this was a problem with me and my phone.

I'm sure you've solved a lot of problems and there are probably many people that thank you for that. If you really are interested in helping people though, and if you really care about the quality of your volunteer forum, you need to learn to listen (or read, in this case) to everything they say even when they challenge your view of the situation, be open to the possibility that you might be wrong, and learn to stop when asked. You can take that from someone who has done this professionally for about 20 years now, or not.

I have exactly the same experience as GA4001 when using my phone (iPhone 6 latest iOS) through my hearing aids. They act as a bluetooth headset but have no integral hangup button. The only way I have found to end a call is to log in which brings up the call screen with all the controls. The power/lock button does nothing during a call except turn on or off the lock screen. If I make a call with my hearing aids turned off (yes I can still hear) then the call screen with the red hang up button is there when I lower the phone from my ear. This is an annoying setup for me especially if I want to hang up on a robocall or the like.

I have the same issue that when I am done with a call, if the screen has locked (set to do after 5 min in my case) then I have to unlock the screen and bring up the phone controls to be able to hang up on the call (iPhone 6s, iOS 9.x.x).

I have narrowed down the issue to using headphones.

If I am not using headphones, then the lock screen does NOT come on during the call. The screen dims, but does not lock, so when the call is over, the screen is still at the phone commands (and undims) so I can hang up with the red button.

However, with headphones in, the screen lock DOES come on and I am locked away from hanging up.

I tried removing the headphones at the end of the call, but once the lock screen comes on, it is on and the phone needs to be unlocked (fingerprint or passcode) to be able to get to the phone commands.

The power button does not hang up a call at the lock screen, just undims the screen (still in lock screen).

My headphones are newer and have a good button on them, so I can hang up with the button, so I am retraining myself to use that button when I use headphones (which I do frequently for longer work calls).

I guess this thread is dead now. But I have the same problem. Anyone can reproduce this issue for themselves. Simply plug in headphones (headphones without a mic or button, just normal headphones) and make a call, or receive a call, whatever. then press the lock button to shut off the display while you're talking with someone. You'll notice it doesn't hang the call up. This is good, because you just wanted to lock the screen. But now, try to hang up the call. To wake the screen you press the home button, or the power/lock button. This wakes the phone, and you only see a call time counter and the contact your on the line with. There is no red button, there are no dial pad keys, none of the normal buttons you see when you are not using headphones and you bring the phone away from your ear. Super annoying.

Did a solution ever surface for this problem!? Or should I take phone to Apple Store?

i Have an Otterbox Defender case.

I Often use my ear buds when in the phone (better sound and I can see screen and multitask.).

It is frustrating when I want to end a call and then I have 10sec of dead air while I go thru the steps to unlock screen,

OPen the phone app, push button to hang up.

IT shouldn't be this hard. It's utterly ridiculous and I've been putting up with it for too long.

I am a new Iphone user and found this to be quite annoying. But I may have found the answer. When the phone (I have the 6s) is locked, my screen says press home to unlock at the bottom and the top of the screen has the name of the person you are speaking with. If you touch the name/number of the person you are speaking with at the top of the screen, it brings up the end call button along with the mute, keypad, etc. No unlock code.

One other note, once you have the screen with end call, etc you can also end the call with the button on the top right to end the call.

I also noticed when the phone is not locked and you are on call if you click the top right side button it hangs your call up. I assume they had a reason to do this, but I am not a fan.
