How do I hang up a call with iPhone 6 and iOS 9.0.1?

I feel so stupid. I've had an iPhone since 2012 with the iPhone 5, but after upgrading my iPhone 6 to iOS 9 (and now 9.0.1) last week, I cannot figure out how to hang up a call without logging in.

When i was done with the call, I used to just turn the screen on and hit the red button. Now, turning on the phone just gets me to the login screen where I have to swipe or put in my PIN, then make sure the phone app is launched and hang up then.

Surely there is an easier way to hang up calls.

Not going to happen. Apple does not participate here in the forum. If you wish Apple to hear what you have to say, then you need to use the feedback link here, http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

They read all of the feedback, however you will not get a personal response.

Hi EdHans,

This recently has been driving me nuts too, and was just about to give feedback to Apple but thought I would google to see if anyone else having same issue.

When I make a call, after I finish the red hangup button is no longer visible. Same as yourself, pressing the sleep button, etc nothing works, and crazy that you have to sign back in to make the red button visible.

There is an easier way:

Tap the person you are calling at the top of the screen, and voila, all the numbers reappear as well as the red hangup button, all this time it was right under our noses!

If you initiate a call by holding down the round button and then saying "dial 888-555-1212" then when you're ready to hang up (like, right after you finish leaving a 30-second voicemail after listening to a long outgoing message) and you remove the phone from sitting against your face you discover that the phone is DARK....so you need to click the round button twice to wake it up, then enter the password and then click on the phone app to bring up the red button. I've not found any other way to easily / instantly hang up the phone when I'm done leaving a message after auto-dialing someone via this method. Very frustrating. Sure hope someone at Apple chimes in here with the magic solution...e.g. some setting we're all overlooking!

Same problem. Been driving me crazy. But not as bad as answering a call while listening to music on bluetooth. I am prompted and choose to take the call via iphone. Great. I talk and the music and bluetooth is paused. Then 15 seconds into the conversation the phone reconnects to Bluetooth and my phone conversation is on my external speaker. Just does whatever it wants i guess. Need an option to never use bluetooth for phone call. Doesnt matter i cant hang up phone anyway. Might as well login. Turn off bluetooth then hit phone icon to hang up call. Apple, do you actually use your product?

This has been driving me crazy for ages. It's such a rigmorole to have to go through just to end a call that I usually just wait for the other person to hang up. The problem arises when the other person is also on an iPhone and doesn't know how to end the call and is waiting for rme to hang up. It's a phone, we need to be able to easily make calls AND end calls.

It was easier when phones were ... well .. phones.

I often dial using "Hey Siri" with headphones which never unlocks the phone, but makes the call. I have had the same frustration with hanging up - especially when leaving a voice mail message only to find that I can't hang up to exit.

For my iPhone6s, I have found that pushing the home button brings up the unlock screen. Then I push cancel which brings me to the locked screen with the phone number or contact displayed. Tapping - or double tapping takes me to the screen with the red button where I can hang up.

So at least that works for me now - until the next ios update anyway.

Hope that this helps.

the end button is there for sure, but there is no single step method to use it in a locked screen during call.

it goes like this : first press the home button , if the phone is keypad lock password enabled , enter that, it takes to the last tab the phone was at for eg the contacts or the phone dialer, touch the top of screen to finally return to call to reach end call button. not a very quick way , isnt it!

this is also the case on a speaker call or an incoming call, unless the opposite person hangs up.

Will be helpful to know if there is an better way.

reclark1 on page 3 actually solved this problem, not IdrisSeabright, whose response is listed as the solution. The reason IdrisSeabright is not correct is that this problem only happens when you use headphones, and when you're using headphones tapping the power button locks the phone, it doesn't hang it up.

"When the phone (I have the 6s) is locked, my screen says press home to unlock at the bottom and the top of the screen has the name of the person you are speaking with. If you touch the name/number of the person you are speaking with at the top of the screen, it brings up the end call button along with the mute, keypad, etc. No unlock code." This is the correct solution to this problem.

And Idris' statement is 2 years old, and is dependent on how you are using the device as you state. It works if you are not using headphones. Because there are numerous ways to handle phone calls with the iPhone, it is difficult to determine ways to accomplish other tasks with a single answer. And the OP (original poster) determines what answers their question, and they are the ones that mark the Solved. And apparently they determined it solved their question. This is what can happen when numerous others post similar questions to older threads.

Ok, but if someone is searching the Apple forums for a way to hang up their phone, it seems highly unlikely that they haven't tried hitting the power button and then hanging up. Plus, the person who marked this thread as solved later said it didn't really solve his problem. Why not just mark as the solution the answer people are actually looking for?

Hi everyone who is absolutely crazy over this issue...

I often times make calls using Hey Siri... other times for whatever reason the phone is locked when the call is going, the only thing on the lock screen is the number or name of the person I am talking to!!! FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!

so just found the answer, TAP the number or name will bring up the call function screen.

ARGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH

I found the answer here...

It turns out, you just need to tap the phone number or contact name displayed on the lock screen, and you will get the call controls. This makes sense, in hindsight, as the swipe right now has a new behavior, but it wasn't obvious to me either.

iphone - Where did the button to hang up the phone from the lock screen go on iOS 10 - Ask Different

so happy to find the solution been driving me crazy
