I had it happen once or twice but after 9.1, it has been happening less often.
I've so had it :-(
I wiped the phone and did a clean install as new. I'm still finding my phone stuck off at a black screen a little less frequently than once a day.
Nearly every time after I power cycle the phone (maybe every time), I'm prompted for my iCloud password. I don't know if that's a clue to the problem -- or if that's normal after a power cycle (not something I normally did before this).
Its on 9.1.
At this point, I'm at a loss as to what else to try other than going to the Apple Store... and I don't know what they'd try that I haven't... other than replace the phone which seems silly.
If anyone has a suggestion before I try that... I'm all ears :-)
I'm here. Which means it happened to me as well. Bought the Iphone 6s / 64gb two days ago. Last night I set my alarm, woke up early and cut the alarm off. Next time I checked my phone, the screen was black and wouldn't wake up. Had to do a hard reset. Still had plenty of battery life when it cut off.
Happened to me as well two days ago. Woke up one hour after my alarm should have gone off and iPhone was dead. Of course I was late to work but trusting solely my iPhone to wake me up is my fault. But it had worked for a few years until now. Even the hard reset took me some time before it finally booted up. Afraid to use the iPhone alarm as my only option and looking forward to iOS 9.2 to finally fix this issue.
I had a long term problem with issue. I tried everything. I would find it stuck on the black screen several times a day. Around the middle of November, I was at my wits end - I really didn't have a phone anymore. I took it to the Apple Store. They replaced it. Since then, I haven't seen the problem once. Yaaaaaaaaay!
In my case... it was a hardware problem. And I was thrilled with the way Apple and the Genius at the Apple Store handled it.
Same issue for me here.
iPhone 6s, 64MB, rose gold, running on iOS 9.2.
I'm getting the same issue. I'm using a 64GB iPhone 6 on iOS 9.2 . Every few days it will turn off during use, even though there is plenty battery life left! It has only started happening since I updated the software to iOS 9 😟
My issue seemed to be related to space and updates. I would get lock ups and restarts when updates where coming in. After cleaning up space i have not had the issue. How much free space do you have available? Also, do you have automatic updates turned on or have you noticed this happening during updates when you don't have much free space left?
Hi WDI, I have 8.3GB of free space, I have automated updates turned on for apps (only on wifi, not using mobile data), but the issue happened again today when I was using mobile data and not connected to wifi, so the updates should not have been happening at that time. Thanks for the suggestions
I no longer remember where i read it but by ding a hard reset 5 times, holding down the home and side button, worked for me - i haven't had that problem since doing it.
Two days ago out of the blue, the same issue started with my phone. 6S+ 128gb gold with about 100gb free space remaining. Operating 9.2 since day one and only now started to get this sporadic condition. I made an apt with the genius bar and began researching the issue online. After backing up my iphone, I wiped my phone and completely started from scratch as recommended via another forum. Worked flawlessly after this sequence of event. I was going to cancel my genius appointment today...when the symptom reoccurred first thing this morning.
Additional symptoms are: very hard and sporadic restarts. eg will get hung up on the start screen "flicker" and quit. I continue to try hard reset...and its less than 50/50 my home page comes up or stays on past the unlock feature, whether hardlined to my mac or not. Took over an hour this morning of non-stop attempts to get it on long enough to disable the find iphone feature prior to my apt at the genius bar. it shut off again...and will remain in this condition until said apt occurs.
I will follow up with results from genius bar.
The Apple store I was helped by hadn't heard of this issue yet. FYI - phone would not even turn on for the genius tech. Thinking the battery was drained, the tech plugged it in for 15minutes prior to addressing the issue. After opening up to verify there was no water or drop damage they simply offered to replace.
So I am not sure if it's progressive "hardware" failure and the random shutdown is the signal the phone is ready to die, but timing is suspicious. Best of luck to all.
Same issue. Started Tuesday (also missed my alarm). Happened again yesterday morning, then went on to do it consistently throughout the day. Went to an Apple Store, they tried to tell me to do a full refresh without pulling in apps, etc but when I said the home button got warm they just decided to replace the display. Fast forward 11 hours, same problem today. Went black, alarm didn't go off, blah blah blah. This is EXTREMELY frustrating, Apple needs to get this fixed. I choose Apple products because they just work. Well, this isn't working. I've had 3 iPhones, my wife 2, we have 2 iPads, come on Apple, this is disappointing.
Bought my iPhone 6s 16gb a couple of days ago, and I think I have the same problem. I restored it with iTunes yesterday, worked just fine in the evening with intense usage, but this morning it crashed when opening Instagram and it all went downhill from there. I suppose that there is no fix to this except replacing the phone. Very disappointed with this, it ruined that new phone experience.
forgot to say that I am on iOS 9.2. Anyone who figured this out? Or the only option is replacing?
