iTunes 12.3 download fails

I have been trying to update iTunes to 12.3 (Mac) since I already updated my iPad to iOS 9 wihotut realising it would no longer connect to my current iTunes. (Why does Apple not make this clear when they push you to upgrade your iPad OS?!)

I have both Yosemite 10.10.5 and Mavericks 10.9.5 on my Macbook Pro, on two SSD drives, but the update installation fails in both OS.

I follow the Apple instructions, by going into my iTunes and then 'Check for Updates', which gives the dialogue box asking if I want to download 12.3. So I click on 'Download' which then launches my App Store application, but the iTunes download never shows up there for me to install. Searching for it from the App Store app directly also fails.

This seems very odd. What am I doing wrong?

I have tried this in bothYosemite and mavericks.

Perhaps it thinks I have already downloaded it, but in that case, where is it, and why doesn't iTunes update automatically next time I start it up?

thanks for any advice...

Jamie

Yes, exactly, the download does not happen. It just immediately thanks me for doing it!

I wondered if maybe I have too many devices registered to my iTunes, so I cleared them all off and just registered the one machine I am trying to update, but that didn't make any difference either.

I am still stuck with this issue.

I am thinking to contact Apple Support directly via an online chat to see if they can provide a different download link. I had the same problem upgrading to Yosemite and that was how they 'solved' it, although I was also told by Apple that I had to restart my computer in safe mode before running the installer, for it to work, so there are definitely some bugs that have been introduced with regard to updating.

Not sure when I will have time to do the Apple chat so if anyone does that before me, please post any useful info here.

thank you, J
