El Capitan running slowly?

Is anyone else having the issue of your Mac running wicked slow after the new El Capitan update? Word, Safari, Preview, and iTunes wouldn't open- they froze and I had to force quit them. Even typing this there is a major lag and the pinwheel appears. What's up with that? So far I hate how slow it's making my mac.

I had the same problem with my mid-2010 IMac, but then I upgraded from El Capitan to Sierra. Huge improvement! Problem solved.

Since I figured it was also a RAM issue, I ordered 16MB of it (from 4MB), but I never installed it. Now I'm wondering whether I even need to.

Huge relief as I was almost ready to order a replacement computer.

Hi nmkhoi. Yes ..i have done that in every way. Currently i cant make El Capitan to run fast and without problems.

So i got to Yosemite which does not have so many problems at least in me.

El Capitan taking too much memory too , without doing anything..just staring and looking at screen.

I had it for 2 months trying to make it work as Snow Leopard at speed but no success.

Maybe is my idea but something is wrong from the downloading from app store. When first installed all good but then,

computer is acting like trying to fix it after installation.

If computer left open for 2 or 3 days offline then all going wrong. Loosing its speed and became unpredictable, when computer need recources from CPU or memory cannot take all it needs.

It looks like this OSX made for low recources or iphone something.

My imac is 7 months old with not even one problem with hardware. (tested) But i noticed that with original HD had only 3gb sata speed when i could had 6gb because is supported and also i had very slow read write speeds ,and unstable status of hard drive.

So i changed hd with a better one.. supporting 6gb sata.

It became little better but not even close to my older imac with much lower hardware specs.

Then i remove HD again and i put it in my other imac with SL .

I noticed that HD started reccuring and be as fast it should be.

Just for test i "destroyed" my old imac with SL and i installed the EL Capitan.( latest 10.11.6)

i had the same bad results in my old imac.Of course i had a back up and original installation dvds and i reverted as it was 🙂

I just put now an SSD and is like completely new machine.

i have it at idle now for 1 day with Yosemite to see how it will go...Till now after 1 day is like was installed. i open finder and is open in a blink of an eye..or anything else.

Maybe not working with other normal HD except Apple original?

So ..i suspect something is happening with hard drives or when downloading the operating system from app store. But i think more that El Capitan not working well with normal hd's .

Maybe thats why the disk utility is not as it was? And is awfull. How Apple did that...For so long disk utility was so good.

Anyway... Was so good also when Apple giving an install DVD with OSX and applications with every iMac.

I dont understand why they stopped this and we are in luck hands to get a good downloaded OSX from app store

or to not having inside undesirable files or viruses or missing kexts or whatelse i dont know..

Who knows if this is downloaded is correct?

Also i have noticed strange things happening with kext loading. But i'm not so high skilled to correct it.

i tried few but i got kernel panics and shut downs. Anyway ..

i compaired my old imac also with SL and my new imac with Yosemite or El Capitan and i noticed that new OSX have priority to internet things like icloud i messages and all these i things. But who on earth will take an iMac to connect to internet? At least i didnt bought it for such reason. if i wanted something like this i would buy an iphone or ipad or ipod. And im not interested at all about these things. i bought an iMac to have a machine with stable operation and to not pulling my hairs to find why is running like snail. Really dissapointed from Apple (:

for now it looks that something is fixed with the SSD.

Aug 23, 2016 2:27 PM in response to Otelina

Hi Otelina...i following this thread as i expecting a solution to make my imac running faster. Anyway as i see from your results you have adware and also Mackeeper installed.

Do you have any programs and files that you need at your mac book? If yes then i suggest you to take them and put them in another hard drive and have only these as they maybe infected too. After ,when your mac is fixed you can scan this drive separately to see if you have any infection to them.About the programs that maybe you have ecxept the normal Apple apps if you can find them again track them to know where to find them. Also if you have any serials write them in a secure place.

Then Reboot your mac holding alt(option) key and in the screen it will appear choose the recovery. Must be connect to internet. Sometimes it fix the OSX as it was without loose your files but not depend of it.

The other way is much complicated . You have to remove all these you see ( Adware malware files)at report and many others that maybe are hidden and never will be as i was before. Also you have to remove completely mac keeper.

of course there are other people here that they have more knowledge to remove a malware completely but my opinion is to make a recovery. Then run again ethercheck and see the results.

Why dont you making a scan first with Malware bytes and waiting for the results to see.Maybe it can fix it...

Apple have an article about this.

Aug 23, 2016 6:12 PM in response to Otelina

Hi dear Otelina...I'm not the mkgr. mkgr opened this thread and i posted. My name is Heli A as you see.

Anyway as i see from your new report it looks much better.

But you need for sure more memory. Maybe you must put 2 8gb dimms. The 8gb you have is not so much.

Try to restart and reset the NVRAM.

Also you have some extensions at Safari that i dont know them...Open safari > prefs> and to extensions tab look to see something not familiar to you .Remove it.

Then you have something from Wacom that is not working. Its a tablet? or a smartphone...?

you shoulldnt also post sensitive data with the Ethernet report..this is your user name?

appears ? if not then you have serious problem.

It looks that you have a dvd device also plugged at one usb port or is built in at macbook?

HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS41N ()

Before you do the NVRAM reset unpug it if it is at usb.

Also these are not ok for me at USER internet pug ins:

UploadManager: Unknown - SDK 10.5 (2015-05-18) [Support]

ContentManager: Unknown - SDK 10.5 (2015-05-18) [Support]

RocketEngine: Unknown - SDK 10.5 (2015-05-18) [Support]

Apple have an article how to remove them if you dont want them or they are unknown

Safari 8 (Yosemite): If you need to remove a plug-in

How to reset NVRAM :

How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

After you reset it you should fix some of your settings if you want.

Come back again and make a new report to see how it looks...good luck!

Hi Heli A. Thanks for all your help. Other than more memory, do you see any other issues?

Aug 24, 2016 2:24 PM in response to Otelina

Hi dear Otelina...As i see its not yet ok...you still have a virus or a malware... I dont understand how you got this in a Mac... 🙂 it looks that we must start becareful and for Macs too....

Anyway it need more reading to tell you but for now it looks that for not obvious reason something is hogging your memory.

Ok... for now go to apple logo and go to about my mac. click the memory tab there and tell me how much memory you see or what it says there..

becareful do not write here any user data info.

then ckick below the tab it says systen report and at the left click the diagnostic.. if it says passed ok for now

then more down again look at memory and compare it with the other result

then write here anything it says for the power or take a screenshot if you dont know how ask me

then below coose the software tab and while is highlighted look at the right if it says system integrity enabled and secure memory too also there compare your user name if it is correct.

Otelina:

Instead of continuing to tack onto this old 29 page thread why don't you start your own thread where you will get focused support? Not many of the volunteers here will read or respond to a 29 page thread. In spite of what you've been told here, you do not have a virus. Follow the advice in this article when starting your own thread: Writing an effective Apple Support Communities question

Aug 24, 2016 2:44 PM in response to BobTheFisherman

Ok you are right about the long pages and sorry for this..but i trying to help dear Bobthe fisherman..

why you telling that there is no malware or virus..it have many extensions and signs that is infected.

Also there are not all expert to know what to do when you giving instructions... Maybe im not expert but i know soem things. Anyway.. It happened the Apple user to find this for help..Its like you see an accident on the road and you see a wounded person and you say wait for next car to take you to the hospital!
