Volume buttons on keyboard no longer work

The volume up and down buttons on my bluetooth keyboard stopped working after I upgraded my 2013 iMac to El Capitan. Please fix.

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X El Capitan (10.11)

Happy to help, but first we’d need to know just a bit more information about your situation:

1. Can you share the kind or brand of keyboard that you are having issues with (Apple, 3rd party)?

2. If possible, can you test the keyboard with a different computer and see if the volume keys still don’t work?

3. If possible, can you test a different Bluetooth keyboard with your iMac and see if the volume keys are working?

If you can report back on the outcome of these tasks above, we can go from there!

If you are running El Capitan, that is your problem. I have volume controls losing their connection nearly every day. Resetting the NVRAM does the trick (at least until the next time it happens). Restart and just when the machine starts to fire up again hold down the command-option-p-r- keys and keep them down until the startup chime rings for a second time. This will fix a number of random issues. Unfortunately, this will not remove all the "improvements" with El Capitan.
