why it is so slow to download El Capitan?

Does this still work? I added it this afternoon and haven't seen any improvement.

Used the google DNS mentioned earlier: 8.8.8.8, and i am at a 20 minute speed downloading now.

Thank you, I tried all the above DNS and didn't work. I paused the download; inserted the DNS 8.8.8.8; resume download and down from 10h to 1h. 🙂

ok so i did that but i already have a dns and my internet went down on it when i changed it also i have a empty home slot were i could put a dns but i don't get it

It totally depends upon broad band internet speed .

They're only the various updates (less than 2GB, the full package is over 6GB)

Thank you so much! I'm from Germany and all the things above didn't help. This hint FINALLY helped! In the beginning "debug" wasn't shown in the Menu - so I typed in the "Terminal": "defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true" --> and confirmed it with enter - and there it was.

I was using the Google DNS servers then switched my primary to the OpenDNS server and it worked; although, I did NOT have to restart the download: I paused the download, added 208.67.222.222 to the top of the list, applied the settings, then resumed the download. My estimated time remaining went from 2 days 3 hours to 26 minutes. This seems especially weird to me since the only thing that was slow was the El Capitan download and not any other downloads through the App store or otherwise.

What is interesting is that if you search the official support the only help you find is links to a couple of threads here such as this one. In order to talk to somebody in Switzerland they want 35CHF to open a ticket, i'm just not willing to pay that for what appears to be a known and fairly common issue.

I had the same problems. Tried everything put out there. In the end what worked was using my phone, linking to my laptop and downloading via 3/4G! Did it in a couple of hours or so. Weird, and as you say it was ONLY El Capitan, every other download was fine.
