El Capitan - Mailproblems

After updating two of my mail accounts cannot access it´s servers. "Cannot verify account name or password". Been in contact with support at mail provider but my settings are ok but still not work. It started after updating to El Capitan.

Have the same issues here--and know the settings are OK (have another Mac running Yosemite and an iPhone on iOS9 working fine). Have tried the usual things such as logging out and restarting, but still no resolution, even after trying (unsuccessfully) to reenter the passwords).

The problem that I'm having is:

When Mail is running memory used goes from 2.26 (aprox) to 7.5 GB.

The result is that my entire computer obviously slows down. Mail seems to be receiving new mail.

I do not receive any messages of any kind related to or resulting from the problem that I am having.

I have not tried to send mail. I deleted al but one mail account. didn't seem to solve the problem.

I followed this link to fix my mail as it is stick in a continuous loop trying to optimize my mail. It is not crashing but doesn't go away and i cannot access my emails anymore. How did you fix that problem??

What i see happening is it looks like it is trying to make a copy of my mail or something as when it started it somehow took my storage down from 19GB to 46MB.... i delete items but it always keeps taking my storage down to 46MB and then the program pauses and ALL the other app freeze... now i am just leaving it closed...

I really need help from someone!

I'm having the same problem after updating to El Capitan. My *correct* password

won't be recognized as valid. [It's even in my Keychain!] Also, my email accounts

seem to have "doubled." Each one (there are three) now have an IMAP form and

a POP form. Which do I use? When I went to delete one of the accounts to see

what that might do (as suggested in this forum), it warned me that *ALL* of the data

would be deleted from that account. Eeek! Does that mean all the emails I have

saved would vanish? I can't do that! How do I sort this out. I'm a real klutz at

understanding any of this. Help!

Hi, I had serious problems too! But i talked to Apple support and they are working on the mail fixes, as well as, some other serious issues. They took some information from my computer through various conversations with them and then they sent me the link to the Beta updates available to the public. This also allows me to continue to send Apple Feedback right away as it puts an app on your computer to send to them.

The update first one allowed me to finally open my mail program again without the "optimizing" issues where it was trying to upgrade my mailboxes which allowed me to starting using Mail again. I only had access to about 1%-5% of my old messages on my POP account but my IMAP accounts all worked fine. I also had the same issue you did, where i could only download my POP account email but it wont take my password to send so have to send from another account. i just got another Beta update yesterday and now I seem to have all my old POP email back in the folder but i still cannot send emails from the account as it won't recognized my outgoing password.

The only other critical issue I seem to be experiencing is the lost of disk space. when my mail started "optimizing" it seemed to drain everything bit of space i had on my computer so had to transfer lots of info to keep making room. BEWARE as when i loaded the Beta update, it still seemed to randomly take some of my disk space. guessing the mail program is somehow trying to make a copy of my folder like Photos does or used to do.... anyway, once I get all the missing disk space back and can send from my POP account, I believe things will be back to 100%.... I hope...

Here is the link to the public Beta updates. They stressed to make sure you back-up before using as it is for testing and feedback.

Hope this helps, Jeff

I am similarly having a hard time with setting a default email since upgrading to El Capitan. My mail default was previously set as my work email, but now messages are sending from .me. I've been trying to change it by going to mail>preferences> composing, but my work email is not available on the selection menu. I've tried deleting and reentering my work account, but that hasn't worked either. And none of the solutions I have read on line have worked. Please help.
