Keychain Access - can't enter password in First aid.

Hi all

After installing El Capitan I have a BIIG problem.. For some reason the password field in first aid in Keychain Access is suddenly missing. I get the following error when trying to run it anyway:

Repair started

Checking keychain configuration for jphansen (user ID=501)

Home directory is /Users/jphansen

Checked login keychain

Checked settings for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain

Keychain can't be unlocked automatically. Please attempt to unlock ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain from Keychain Access.

Unable to change password for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain. Please change password using Edit > Change Password for Keychain.

Checked default keychain

Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain

No problems found

Repair completed

And at the same time the login keychain locks..

I can change the password but it doesn't make a difference.. I have tried disabling iCloud keychain and throw out the "XXXX-C137-55C9-8894-8900F6509C72" folder. Restarted in Recovery mode and disabled Rootless to see if that made a difference.. It didn't.

Anyone else have this issue.. or know how to fix it?

I also get a ton if these msgs in the console:

01/10/15 11:32:02,693 secd[569]: securityd_xpc_dictionary_handler SocialPushAgent[608] copy_matching Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-34018 "client has neither application-identifier nor keychain-access-groups entitlements" UserInfo={NSDescription=client has neither application-identifier nor keychain-access-groups entitlements}

01/10/15 11:42:13,827 Keychain Access[1148]: Failed to connect (_showExpiredCerts) outlet from (KeychainApp) to (NSMenuItem): missing setter or instance variable

The problem seems to be on both my iMac and Macbook Pro :-/

Absolutely same problems I got here!! I tried restore the system with time machine, deleted some of the folders (/Users/lockermac/Library/Keychains/C*****1),(/Users/lockermac/Library/Preferen ces/ByHost), even uninstall some of the third party apps (I thought it was some kind of authority kidnapping.....), but none of them workedQQQQ

Hope Apple or someone can come out some solutions plz!!

I've reported this to Apple through the Developer Bug Reporter No. 22970347, gave it a rank of "Important" so will just have to see if they get round to it (or currently working on it!). Sometimes they respond by confirming that a report is a duplicate or its being addressed, but had no reply yet.

Although I have no password field Keychains does not appear to be giving any issues yet regarding approvals so the only inconvenience for me is the inability to run Verify or Repair which could be required in the future. Would suggest if run under the current situation because it can not automatically unlock any results it might give could be unreliable.

After a bit of work, mostly blind but using others experience here and on Google, I have the keychain stable, with no repeated requests. I think there were two changes that made a difference: 1. delete folders in ~Library/Keychain then restart. 2. In Keychain Access preferences, First Aid, select "Synchronise login keychain password with account"

Still without a password field in First Aid though.

Also having problems with Keychain and MS Office 2016.

Keep getting a dialog box asking me to Allow, Always Allow or Deny access to keychain info for Office.

The dialog doesn't respond to any input (on any of the 3 choices). In the console I see the following error associated with each attempt to respond to the dialog:

"gateway Ignoring user action since the dialog has received events from an untrusted source"

I ended up manually adding all the Office apps to the keychain entry and office is working now, but that is a workaround to an underlying problem with the keychain.

Well I spent two days messing around and it just got worse with keychain just becoming impassable.

so, I reinstalled El Capitan (couldn't restore as I'd forgotten to set time machine on for the airport..doh..) but did not activate keychain on initialisation. Got through to full working system, but still couldn't access yahoo mail which was the root cause of my issues at the beginning.

put call into Apple. Support was great, eventually got yahoo mail working. However advice was leave keychain out of the equation. Use if you want, but it appears that in El Capitan there may be dragons....

macbook so so far working ok. iMac I restored back to old software off airport and works as well.

im stuck with El Capitan on MacBook, but keychain is off limits at the moment.

Same problem. Thanks apple for locking me out of my own laptop.

My password on my main account got changed by itself and I've been using the same pw consistently. This is not a problem on my end, it is entirely on your end.

I can only begin to explain my frustration over this right now. I setup an appointment with your "GeniusBar" but I can say no one has had access to my laptop. My password includes #s, letters etc, and it still either got deleted or changed on its own.

You are going to say simple things like "check to make sure caps lock isn't on" well guess what? It's not on.

I pray your "Genius Bar" can do something to fix this but I promise you this isn't pw was changed without any third party having access to my laptop.

Well I don't know if this will help anybody but having solved all my access issues by NOT using Keychain, I couldn't access email from Yahoo again just now.

So, I did this :

Mail - preferences - accounts - account info - outgoing mail server (SMTP) - used the pull down window, selected Edit SMTP server list, then checked to see if the password was there.

In my case it had been deleted (again). So reentered the password, and all back up and running.

But there is something not right in El Capitan regarding passwords and Keychain. By the way, life is fine without Keychain.

I am yet another victim of this. I don't have any of the bizarro applications that some have linked to this problem. I've everything listed as a possible solution and nothing has worked. iTunes won't connect to the iTunes store and I am being constantly pestered for my keychain password by everything and it's brother. It's a pain in the ***.

I really don't think you will break out of this based upon my experience. I would recommend restoring from a backup prior to el capitan. If you persist with el capitan, then you may have to rebuild from scratch, but I would advise NOT using Keychain from the outset in the rebuild.

My system has just again "erased" the password for my mail so had to retype in again.
