El Capitan Synology

Hello there. Since updating to El Cap we can no longer connect to our synology network storage via AFP.

Two mac updated showing the same problem, another 10 on mavericks connecting as normal via both Wifi and Ethernet.

Hardware: DS1515+

Version: DSM 5.2-5592 Update 4

10-15 other users have posted to the synology forum with the same problem.

Everyone get's the following error;

There was a problem connecting to the server “XXXXX”.

The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.

Hey,

additon on my post where i meant that restart is a solution, after i restart the syno the file server was available in the finder, but not connectable constantly.

So following steps does fix the Problem constantly.

1. turn smb off on the syno (at my syno it was off, because no windows at my network)

2. restart syno

3. first turn off smb and afp -> and then turn off file sharing on the Mac

4. restart the mac

If i do this on a MacBookPro, IMac and a MacMini everthing works normal like before on Mavericks, also Time Maschine.

@ B_Volkovyski did you try to deselect your Time Maschine Volume in (System Preferences -> Time Maschine) and select it again (maybe with a Mac restart between)?

This is still an issue as of yesterday (12/16/15) with my rMBP running 10.11.2 and my Synology DS213. After attempting multiple fixes (WINS settings, SMB and AFP settings, network settings, etc...) from several posts both on here and the Synology pages, my fix was simply resetting my Airport Extreme.

The second it reset the NAS showed back up in my finder. Hopefully this will help someone else that's still in the same situation 🙂 I feel slightly dumb for not doing a router reset at first haha...live and learn I guess. Apple seriously needs to address this issue since the problem is so wide-spread.

I have a very similar problem. I get the same error message ("There was a problem connecting..." ) for an SMB share on a raspberry pi that worked great on Yosemite (and earlier) but now fails after an El Capitan update.

When I try to "Connect As..." I don't get prompted for credentials, and I don't see saved credentials in my Keychain.

Any ideas?

Any way to reset/clear the saved credentials used to access my SMB shares?

I get this message 'The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “DS1515” can’t be found.' Specifically, I see my DiskStation as a shared volume in a finder window. And it shows the shares: music, video, surveillance, and the main share I named DS1515. The finder window shows "Connected as: admin". But when I click into the share DS1515, the window disappears and the finder reports 'The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “DS1515” can’t be found.'

Strangely, the shares for 'music' and 'video' don't make the window vanish and seem to work. Also strangely, uTorrent can open a working view of the DS1515 share. But accessing it directly from the Finder fails as described above.

Clearly, El Crapitan is to blame for all this. I had upgraded to the latest Synology version earlier. All the trouble started after the El Crap update. Amazing that Apple could take a protocol that has been working for a decade or more, screw it up out of the blue for no good reason, and already be at 10.11.2 and not care to fix it. At this rate, Apple stock will fall below $100...

I'm still having the same issues as well. I have tried everything BUT resetting my AirPort Express because that would mean setting up all of my network ports all over again and I don't really want to do that.

I started having the issue when I was on the 10.11.3 beta so I downgraded but it didn't fix anything. I still have the same problem. I'm beginning to think that it may very well may be the router and not the computers having the issues but I don't see how that could be possible personally.

When I tried resetting the file sharing by turning off SMP and AFP, rebooting, and then reconnecting my Raspberry Pi (using Netatalk) actually connected for like 2 seconds and then it disconnected and I started getting the same issues again.

I honestly don't know what to do, I get this exact same issue with my Mac Mini that is running my OS X Server with TimeMachine, so none of my devices are getting any backups. It's causing me to waste a lot of time testing when I should be doing. Apple really needs to fix this problem.

Same issue basically here. I was the only person to upgrade to El Capitan at work, and after a week I have lost my ability to connect either by SMB or AFP to the NAS. I believe my previous Yosemite cache was still connecting until it was flushed, now there's nothing.

We have limited access to the media server other than restarting it, which was done with no good results.

I am connected via a direct wired connection to the media via a switch, which is operating fine upon testing as the others are connecting well with Yosemite.

Something changed in El Capitan, and Apple needs to somehow revert to the Yosemite code with this connection issue.
