restored my new 6s plus from my 6 plus backup on 9.01 and everything transferred fine. backed up my 6s plus on 9.01 and did a complete software restore to 9.02. loaded the back up and the text and imessages do not display. also all my app that were "signed in" to services facebook ect now required me to re-sign in. This has never happened before.

Anyone else experience this , does anyone have a fix?

Same issue as described above for me.

-Upgrade from iPhone 6 in October, backed up to iCloud and restored to new iPhone 6SPlus - no issues.

-Yesterday needed to restore from backup (as part of troubleshooting a free Apple Music offer from my carrier). I'm using an iPhone 6S+ with iOS 9.1. Did an iCloud backup then 'erase all data and settings'.

-When restoring, I noticed the latest backup was the night prior rather than the backup I had done immediately before 'erase all data and settings'. This should've been my first clue something was up!

-I restored from the latest (day prior) backup and all my messages (SMS and iMessages) were gone. Many Apps and App data were missing and all were located wrong on the grid layout. Including basic ones like Facebook!

-Now to get my SMS/messages back I need to restore from that iPhone 6 backup in October, but that will be missing weeks of messages and other data!!

From reading around forums/reddit, it appears backing up to iCloud from a 6S device (plus or not) produces a corrupt backup that doesn't restore properly. It appears backing up to iTunes may be unaffected (unconfirmed). There is nothing to indicate Apple is aware or working on this issue. Obviously more and more people will be affected by this now that many 6S devices are out in the world and people are backing up and restoring for whatever reason.

My recommendation would be to backup locally via iTunes and to also use third party software to save photos/messages elsewhere.

Best of luck to everyone!

Yeah I've actually considered moving to android since Steve left us. Seriously, he would be so upset at a lot of the direction Apple has taken. They haven't innovated once without him. When I first saw, "The only thing that's changed is everything" (for the 6s), I thought it was a parody. I guess part of everything that's changed is the fact that iCloud backups no longer work

My Senior Advisor says she's still waiting on Engineering to get back to her.

I've followed up with Customer Relations as well because my Senior Advisor was only willing to wait for a response, not proactively try to figure out why people have been waiting 7 weeks for a resolution.

My customer relations person claimed to have backed up and restored an iPhone 6s successfully. Has anyone on these forums been able to do that? Everyone else I encounter has not been able to successfully restore an iPhone 6s backup.

+1. Had to get my iPhone 6S wiped yesterday due to a critical lock screen bug.

On restoring from backup, hangs on the Apple logo. After hard reboot, messages + other data missing. This just sums up a lot of Apple software - completely useless.

Turned backups off to avoid overwriting old backup - hopefully they can get a fix out for this asap.

I've done that - I've allowed them to put my account into "troubleshooting" mode, and reset my iCloud password.

I have an iPhone 6s 64gb on 9.1.

This issue started for me on the 14th November - I accidentally deleted something, so reset my phone and restored to an iCloud backup from just 2 hours earlier. I had the white screen with black apple logo, no progress bar. Force restarted and had all apps' data missing, no health data, no messages, and many apps quit as soon as they're launched. Some launched, but display nothing, others launch and are empty as though I've just re-installed them. So I've had to re-install most apps to be able to use them again.

I spoke with Apple support on the 15th, tried a few things, spoke again over the following few days, when they eventually did the troubleshooting mode on Wednesday 18th, logging it with the Engineering team.

I rang back a few times (the lady, a Senior Technician, gave me her contact details so I could keep speaking to her about it), and there was no feedback from Engineering, other than they had a backlog of cases to work through.

I had a call today, letting me know engineering have looked at it and there's been a few reports of this issue.

Engineering asked her to try restoring my backup to see if it worked for her, but she couldn't get it to complete so she's asking Engineering to try it.

They've asked me to restore a backup from my iPhone 6 (I never deleted those backups from iCloud), which I'm currently doing - that backup is from 24th September. I've also tried earlier backups between then and november 14th, but slow internet so haven't tried many. They didn't work (same issue, missing data).

What I have noticed, the white screen happens when doing the "Erase all content and settings" on the device and then restoring an iCloud backup. The white screen doesn't happen when Restoring the software on iTunes, then restoring an iCloud backup.

Both methods of wiping result in missing data, however, so doesn't make much difference.

I'll see how this 24th September iPhone 6 backup goes (28 minutes remaining..), and I'll post back any info I get back from Apple.

Sorry for the long post - I felt like I was writing a diary!

My iPhone 6 backup from 24th September seems to have restored successfully to my iPhone 6s.

Apps have data up to the 24th September, including health data.

I've just walked around the house and health has updated with the steps.

I'll feed this back to Apple, and see where we go from there.

Seems to be as others have said, it's an issue restoring a backup that was made on an iPhone 6s.
