OS X Could Not Be Installed on Your Computer!
OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
Hello ProEdgeBiker.com,
I understand that you are having an issue with your MacBook Pro 17" installing OS El Capitan. Let's see if we can get it sorted out.
Because you are seeing the File System verify or repair failed alert, check out what the issue could be by using Disk Utility in the OS X Recovery. I have outlined the steps below on what to do.
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck

Try Disk Utility
Use these steps to use the Disk Utility app to verify or repair a disk.
- If you're using OS X Lion or later, start the computer from Recovery System or Internet Recovery. If you're using an older version of OS X and your computer came with a Mac OS X Install disc, insert the installation disc and restart the computer while holding the C key instead.
- When your computer finishes starting up, choose Disk Utility from the Utilities window, or from the Installer menu if you're started from an installation disc.
- Click the First Aid tab.
- Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
- Select your Startup Disk (usually named "Macintosh HD").
- Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
If it repairs itself, then you can try the install again. Let me know what you find out.
Take it easy
I was having the same alert. I tried disk utility but it gives error while running first aid on Macintosh HD. It says First Aid process has failed. Now everytime I restart, disk utility screen shows up. I can't go anywhere. I tried reinstall OS X and it gives error too.
Sorry, i couldn't upload the pics through safari so i made links to the images of the error:

Running First Aid on Macintosh HD details:
.........
Checking extentes overflow file.
Checking story catalog file.
The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely.
File system check exit code is 8.
File system verify or repair failed.
Operation failed.
well guys, THANK YOU TIME MACHINE!!! After a restore of the computer, i tried updating again and everything works perfect.
My old baby is running better than the day i bought her in 2009. I'm amazed on how clean and fluid the interface is.
i ended lip installing El Capitan on a 16GB SD card and then ran Disk Warrior to fix the HD. I was then able to install El Capitan onto the main drive. I don't know why Disk Utility didn't work and Disk Warrior did. Cost me $130 but feel like it saved a ton of photos that I hadn't backed up for about two months. I'm goingto start using Time Machine from now on. It's a life saver.
What specific Mac do you have?
Can you boot to Recovery?

How do you get to recovery when the installer keeps trying to run and fails.
Try running Apple hardware test
Try to force your Mac to boot into Internet Recovery by holding down Command+Option+R at startup.
I'm in the same boat but never used Time Machine 😟
Obviously there should be an Exit Back to Yosemite button with El Capitan!
What was the error when First Aid failed?
Well I appreciate the help but it didn't work. it says the disc can't be repaired... 1st time apple has failed me...
While checking catalog file, it stops, then it says "First Aid process has failed. If possible back up the data on this volume. Press Done to continue."
Same problem has occurred with other number updates (10.9>10.10) since it appears that the install/upgrade stresses the disk and can cause a marginal disk to fail.
looks like you and I have the exact same problem....
