iMessage inActive after installing El Capitan
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11)
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11)
I tried the 9th step and it didn't work. I have tried every possible thing there is but nothing seems to work. Also, had a chat with one of the guys at Apple but they asked me to reach the local UAE Apple office on Sunday. Also, since I could login to iMessage with a different Apple ID, looks like it is something to do with my Apple ID definitely. Will have a word with them and update accordingly.

Messages – Fix Syncing Between Mac and IOS
Hi Eric.
I tried what is written in all the links you provided. Unfortunately none helped. For some weird reason when I login with my other apple ID iMessage works. Just this one gives this issue.
I've tried all this and more. Reinstalled El Capitan today. Still can't login to Messages. Working on iPhone and iPad as well. I'm also getting a message that my computer can't connect to iCloud. When I go to the iCloud preferences (as directed) sometimes I'm asked to reenter my password, sometimes everything is just fine. Just can't login to Messages. FaceTime is acting like it is logged in, but I am unable to make calls from it as well. You're not alone.
I am stuck with the same problem. I tried every possible thing but it stays stuck at INACTIVE state for some reason.
I got mine fixed! I hope this helps:
1. Reset your computer's NVRAM
2. Boot your computer in Safe Mode
3. Log into FaceTime and Messages (see below for additional details)
4. Reboot into Normal Mode
While in Safe Mode, I logged out of FaceTime (which I was able to log into before, but unable to make calls), and logged in again.
Also, while in Safe Mode, on my phone in the Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding I was able to turn back on my computer, and my computer successfully received the verification code.
Everything appears to be back to normal.
TheWeas,
This is one of the many things I've tried before I posted this discussion. It did not work. I tried again just now. Did not work 😟
Same problem here,
I read in other old discussion that you need to change the country, but I can't find this option in iMessage preference !
My account is working fine with FaceTime, the problem is just with iMessages !!
yeah facetime seems to work. Even I was looking for this. I suggest everyone report it to apple feedback.
Hi,
On last july the same problem occurred with Messages App' on my MacPro. I've been in touch with Apple ever since but they couldn't find a solution.
Until the day I decided to restore my iPhone and then enable again the Mac Pro in the SMS Transfert preferences.
I had a problem signing in as well. Said it my account was inactive, but I was able to sign into iTunes, etc.
I came across this link:
I tried #9 first as it was easiest to implement. I really didn't want to hassle with all the more complex solutions if I didn't have to. And it worked. immediately.
Good luck!
Thanks Thomas for your reply. Unfortunately none of them work. And with regard to reinstalling. I did a fresh install. And the very first thing I wanted to try was iMessage.
After fresh installation, still facing same problem "iMessage inactive".
Any solution from Apple Support?
Hello guys,
-Praise be to God- My problem has just solved, but unfortunately I don't know how ??!
I just opened my iMessage app today on my MacBook Pro and the following message appeared:
I entered the code on my iPhone, signed out from preferences, quit iMessage and reopened again, signed in again and my Apple ID is now working well with iMessage on my MacBook !!
The only thing I did is that I changed my primary address of my Apple ID to a US address !
I'm not sure if this change has any relation to solve my problem !!
Thanks for your support ..
