So, I did a lot of searching outside the Apple Community and found this:
Close Calendar
In finder go to:
~/Library/Preferences
Find: com.apple.iCal.plist
Drag it to the desktop.
Reopen Calendar and all was well. No beach ball spinning, no slowness. All is good.

Worked for me. Thanks!
Your screen shot shows that you are not looking at your USER Library
What is the path to the correct folder?
Mac HD > Users > [my folder] > NO "Library" folder
Mac HD > Users > Shared > Library > Application Support > Adobe > .... useless ....
The Library folder is hidden. In the Finder select the "Go" menu and hold down the option key. You'll see the Library folder appear.
WOW! Problem solved - thanks for your help and for making it so simple for me and anyone who didn't know about accessing hidden folders.
THANK YOU!!! Once I found my USER folder, I was able to delete it! 🙂
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
DO we always keep the com.apple.iCal.plist file on the desktop?
This worked and I have found the will to live again – thank you!!
The com.apple.iCal.plist file you dragged to the desktop is unneeded and can be deleted.
The file was dragged to the desktop to enable an updated com.apple.iCal.plist file to be created in your Library folder.
Saved my life !!
