Outgoing mail server gone under El Capitan

Immediately after installing El Capitan, I am unable to send emails. However, I'm still receiving them. Note the following oddity ... although I once had an email address "drastal@comcast.net" it has been inactive for years. Nonetheless, it appears when I view the "Internet Accounts" tab under "System Preferences". I've asked staff at the Apple Store to resolve this twice before, and no one seems to understand why it's shown there. Yet my drastal@icloud.com account has worked perfectly, until I installed El Cap.

The contents of my Mail Preferences are shown below. Thanks in advance ...

"System Preferences > iCloud > disable mail option, wait a second then re-enable it."

This worked for me, too, even though nothing appeared to change - my outgoing mail server was already populated with the same info that was there before the Yosemite to El Capitan upgrade - not empty as some have experienced.

Thanks OR-CD!

If only my computer could read your message and believe the "that's all u have to do." In my case, sometimes it works fine after doing that, sometimes it works after I undo that, and actually no matter what I do, it will eventually decide that it's unhappy and stop working. At least that's how it's been going since I first installed El Capitan, on the day it was publicly released.

HELP!! This fix seems to only apply to iCloud email users, it does not apply to anyone who has email accounts that are not iCloud emails. I have the same problem and cannot add an SMTP server, even when I managed to get to the edit list (which is gone from preferences, but did pop up on a failed email send) as soon as I add it, it disappears immediately and is not on the list. Also if you change one accounts outgoing SMTP from the drop down it changes them ALL. This is a nightmare.

Same problem as above. I'm not using iCloud but another provider. Keep getting asked form y password, then it tell she either the user name or password ins incorrect. The out going mail host sys disabled. Tried all the fixes above an no luck. I have had El Capitan installed since day one with no problems Mail until this morning. Seems like something has become corrupted but what?
