El Capitan screen split mode does not work for ms office?

This thread has nothing to do with the iPad or iOS. It is regarding Split screen mode in El-Capitan... OS X 10.11. You'll be better served by starting a new thread in the correct forum.

The issue is not with El Capitan but with Microsoft. Their version 15 does not, as far as I can tell, allow a split screen; version 14 allows a split screen. Nor does Write-n-Cite (refworks) work with the new implementation. So, 2 versions of MS Word are needed.

When an operating system introduces new features software has to be updated to use those new features. Software cannot magically do things they were designed to do just because an operating system update was introduced. Office 2011 can be used in fullscreen mode but not split screen. All software that supports split screen has been updated to support it.

Microsoft has released Office 2016 for the Mac which fully implements fullscreen mode and split screen. The test for support is quite simple. Open a window, then click and press the green widget. If your screen displays a blue overlay on either the right or left half it supports split screen. If it does not show the overlay the program does not. Office 2011 does not. Microsoft will continue to support the 2011 version with security updates and bug fixes for another year or two but it will not get new features.

my version does have the full screen function... but split view still does not work

While waiting for the upgrade (?) I reinstalled Cinch from AppStore, and then get split screen in MS Office (Word) too. I'm using macOS Sierra.

Cinch is a for-pay application ($6.99 as of this date). This seems like a lot of money for a single function program.

OneNote is not and never was part of Office 2011. It's available as part of Office 2016 and as a standalone app.

yes, they definitely disabled it, i doubt it's about if Office 2011 doesn't have full screen mode or sth, i feel cheated
