EDIMAX wifi extender stopped working with El Capitan

Hello,

after I installed El Capitan, my EDIMAX wi-fi adpter stopped working and the utility software would not run. Its the adapter that enables my Macbook Pro to use AC Wi-Fi.

http://www.edimax.com/edimax/merchandise/merchandise_detail/data/edimax/global/w ireless_adapters_ac450/ew-7711mac/

I am using Macbook Pro (Retina, early 2013). Everything worked fine with Yosemite.

The little light on the adapter is not on and the utility app is impossible to run. Nothing is happening.

Can anybody help me with that?

Thanks a lot.

Hi DJ-LB,

Thanks for taking the time for helping all of us out!

I followed your steps and after I sudo kextload, the Wireless Utility manager opens up. However, it's completely blank. It can't find my wireless network and says "Disconnected!!"

When I look in my System Preferences > Network, I can see "Wifi" but it says "Cable Unplugged" (screenshot below). Any ideas?

I'm running OSX El Cap 10.11.1 on a Mac Pro (Early 2009). The tower does not have built-in wifi, which is why I needed to get this dongle (Edimax EW-7711MAC)

I actually got my EW-7711MAC to work great with El Capitan and the hacked driver (couple pages back in the thread). But for some reason, my adapter just stopped working altogether today. If I unplug it from the USB slot and plug it back in, it lights up for 1-2 seconds, and then shuts off.

So I thought, well now is time to try that new El Capitan driver (I'm running OS X 10.11.3). So I used the Edimax utility to uninstall the previous driver, then installed the new 10.11 driver, and the wireless utility and everything appeared to install correctly.

However, my Edimax will still not stay "on". Has anyone encountered this issue recently? I have not installed any new programs or changed anything else with the system configuration otherwise.

Hi, on my Macbook Pro 17'' late 2011 with El Capitan installed and updated to the last version, Edimax's new driver installs well, the dongle's LED lights up after reboot, the Edimax application works. But the list of available networks show only three networks - and not my own one that I obviously want to connect to. Connecting with the usual Apple Airport Card, I usually see about 27 networks in my neighbourhood, of which 17 are on the 5GHz band. I have repeatedly pressing the "rescan" button (a couple dozen times now) and it is NOT happening.

Again, my problem is not that the driver doesn't work but that I can't see my own network.

If there is no solution for this, I'll have to send the Edimax back to the shop I bought it from…
