With El Capitan, there's again an old bug that was on Leopard and Snow Leopard, and then disappeared on Mavericks and Yosemite: you can't access to App Store when you are logged as root user. To access, you must switch to Administrator User. I've already marked this to Apple support, and I'm waiting for an answer via email. Hopefully the problem shall go with a next update (hopefully...)

I have this problem also, but it is not all apps that won't download, it is only 3rd party apps that are free in the app store. All the apps that came with my macbook pro download with no problem, and also SOME 3rd party apps download as well but some won't. I contacted Apple support and they told me it is a developer issue and they need to update there code for there software to El Capitan to fix this error. If anyone else has a workaround for this I would love to hear it also.

Thanks

I agree. I was not satisfied with there tech support yesterday when I called and thats why I called again today. At least today I spoke with someone who knew a bit more then yesterdays tech support, but in the end she came to the same conclusion. That the seller of the software has to update there code so it will work with El Capitan. Tech support tried to download the same games and apps that I am having a problem with on there own computer at Apple, and they got the same error as I did "Download failed try again using the purchasing page"

So I think it could be a problem with the the App store itself, but that is not Apple's opinion. I think that when more people call in and complain, the more Apple support might listen and really try and fix this issue instead of putting the blame on the seller of the software instead of themselves and really try and fix the issue.
