El Capitan update paused and won't download

I'm trying to download El Capitan and the download icon in the dock tells me it is "waiting" - but it has waited since yesterday afternoon (more than 24 hours). I put in the trash, restarted my Mac and downloaded again just now - and the icon again tells me it's "waiting". I can't make it Pause - if i click on the icon all it offers is "cancel download"

At least, almost. You wouldn't have a suggestion how to reconnect with the iCloud? After installing El Capitan (6.19 Gb, c. 6hrs) everything worked fine except that I cannot connect to the iCloud anymore and so lost the Inbox and my contacts in Mail.

But that's a different problem and I shall make it a separate post.

YOU ARE THE MAN!!! that check for unfinished downloads advice did the trick! been trying to figure it out for like 2 weeks lol. THANKS

open the purchase d par then click on all apps which didn't complete download or did installed then its will resume or click download on any old eddition just like Yosemite

I had to click the "Check for unfinished downloads" three times before it worked, but then it finally resumed the download. Thanks.
