ios 9 automatic download making me furious

I am also furious at Apple!

Since iOS 9 came out they have been - with out concent - downloading the upgrade to our apple devices at home. I have been looking EVERY week for the file download and DELETING it and making sure not anyone could by accident upgrade. And this is because I don't want to upgrade - I love my configured iOS 7.1.2 devices working in great harmony.

Well, today I was taking a nap and my 4 year old son, after the iPad was recharged and rebooted the question pooped up. And he just hit the "upgrade" button.

About a months hard work keeping the devices from upgrading is thrown out of the window, you #/(%/#(/%!

You lost a customer, really!

Blocking mesu.apple.com at DNS level seems to work - should have done this ages ago - so now my other devices will not upgrade, so help me God!

I Am furious with this automatic downloading of iOS 9 and its updates into my iOS 7 iPhone 5s causing me to lose a total of 3.6 GB of my free space.when iOS 9.0.1 downloaded I lost 1.2GB of free storage space but the download is showing a size of 78.9MB. Genius Bar deleted the download but I did not gain back the 1.2GB erased by that download, only the 78.9MB was gained back.i have another appointment with Genius Bar today but I may not go because of the nightmarish accounts of iOS 9 causing problems with iphone 5 and 5s.

Please advise how to prevent future ios9 updates from downloading.

You will not be compensated for data usage, these are Internet devices, they will use data. If Apples system is not to your liking try an Android.

If your business does not have enough data allowance to function correctly that is your problem, buy more, it's a business.

for iPhone owners to prevent automatic downloads of iOS 9 and its updates, maybe these will stop them:

1. Bring down your free storage to 500 MB or less and/or

2. Removing your iPhone from your Apple ID account.

a Message to iOS senior adviser Rahman draper . I think I'm not going to the genius bar today. If you could find a way for me to gain back my lost 3.6GB of storage space kidnapped by the auto downloads of iOS 9 and its updates, I'll forever be grateful.

I am VERY surprised No one has mentioned this, if the updates are just sitting in your Software Updates list, you can remove these updates yourself ( I believe this was, also, true in later updates of iOS 7, too!).

Make sure your iDevice has over 50% battery life or better.

Launch the Settings App.

General tab, in he right hand panel, look for and tap on Storage and iCloud Usage.

Tap on Manage Storage.

Wait for a list to generate ( depending on how much stuff is on your iDevice, this may take a little time to generate).

Look for the iOS upgrades/updates in the list, tap on each one individually and it should offer you an option to delete each update from your iDevice.

Genius Bar deleted the iOS9.0.1 download, the 78.9mb was restored into my free storage space, not the 1.2GB that was kidnapped by the download. Not nice Apple.

If you use iTunes on a computer, try connecting your iPad to your computer, sync and backup your iPad to iTunes and see if the iPad will release your missing free space.

Been there done that when the iOS 9.0.1 download hit me and I lost 1.2GB of free space. Did not work. Lost another 1.2 GB when iOS 9.1 hit. Now 3.6+ GB of free space is in the phantom zone. Apple please make it right.

MY initial response to your going the iTunes route suggestion did not make it to the discussion page coz it had colorful words voicing my frustrations.

im sure there are geniuses at Apple who know exactly how to recover free storage space lost in this manner, which is Apple's fault btw

I do not know why you aren't able to delete these updates and recover the space by using the Settings>General>Storage and Usage and delete from the list method.

I use this ALL the time to remove/delete updates when I do not want to download and install these right away.

When I delete the upgrades/updates from the Usage list, I gain back all of the space used by the upgrade/update.

I use this and it works and my iPad 3 regains this space.

I use this technique on my Wife's and my Mother's iPad 2 models when I don't want them to do ANY upgrades or updates until I see how the upgrade/update fairs on my own iPad.

I do not know why this technique is not working for you or anyone else.

Removing the updates in the manner I mapped out removes the upgrade and immediately restores the free space back to my iPad

Works flawlessly every fraggin' time!

I suggest you try this, again, and then Try a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons.

My suggestion works!

I had previously done all that you said.the individually listed 78.9mb usage for the iOS 9.0 download came back to free storage but the 1.2GB lost from the event of the download did not.it's totally puzzling and frustrating. There were three auto downloads that happened each listed at 78.9mb and all causing a total of 3.6GB disappearing. All I gained back in free sto space was 78.9mb x 3. The iOS 9.0.2 update did not download because I had only 700-800mb free space at the time.

I can't figure what has happened in your example, either.

The only way to get Apple to listen to you is to use their feedback portion of their website. Apple DOES read the feedback, but they still do not respond with any personal replies.

Another reason using the feedback form is better, feedback is logged and 'real' in that I'm sure there are reports as to x many about this, x many about that, etc. This forum????? Counts as anecdotal at best. It's not logged, so, in the corporate mind, it's not real.

My experience tells me that for something to be changed, it usually needs to be made someone else's problem. Using the feedback form to make reports is the first step in making it someone else's problem.
