Just because this is a user-2-user forum that don't mean some who works at apple cant read through and use some info found here. I would think unofficially they do, and if not they are passing up a wealth of user info right here on their servers!

Because I've had conversations with the Hosts who have confirmed this.

On occasion, if a particular engineering group is researching an issue, they may look for examples here. They may even, on rare occasions, reach out to a user who's experiencing a bug they want more information about. But, for a thread such as this, which is primarily complaints by people who don't like they way iOS works when it's working the way it's supposed to, no, Apple isn't reading it.

I was not saying Apple studied this thread. I said only that its possible, when you basically said no way on earth that would ever happen.
In any case we have drifted off the subject. so I will now take my leave!

Someone removed my last two posts, presumably someone on Apple's payroll. This counts as "Apple reading this thread", even if only a moderator. Issues get seen on forums / social media and potentially upwardly referred depending on the activity.

Tech companies these days operate with agility and continuous deployment in response to many factors including user feedback. A lot of issues on iOS have been address in response to user feedback - for example elements of the "flat design" look introduced in iOS7 generated many complaints. To their credit, Apple responded with changes.

It would be good if Meg St_Clair could contribute something other than "get a job at Apple if you want to see change", and let people use this forum for what it was intended - discussion about Apple products including annoyances such as automatic downloads.

They may very well read, but do not formally provide technical support through this community. And the terms that you agreed with to be here, speak to asking questions about how/why Apple does what they do.

It seems very clear that this is not that place.

Make your point. Ask your question. Move on.

It is well documented that some users find the auto update process annoying. What more can be added to the debate?

No, it does not count as "Apple reading this thread". It counts as a host reading your specific message, because a USER at level 2 or higher reported your posts as possible TOS violations. Apple is not a person; it is hundreds of thousands of people, each with specific responsibilities. Hosts have the job of keeping order. That is their only job. The have no connection with engineering, marketing sales, or any other organization that you are attempting (and failing) to reach by posting here. A user at level 6 or higher has direct access to hosts, can discuss things with them in a private forum, and can periodically meet with them either in person or in online meetings. It is from these meetings that some of us actually know how the forum works.

This auto update business has me really worried. While they cut off older devices from newer flavors of iOS, they always end up letting every device install one flavor too many fot it too handle. My 3GS should have never been allowed to install iOS 6. My 4S should have never been allowed iOS 8 or 9. For all intesive purposes, they were unusable after this upgrades. Everything was too choppy (iOS 9 was slightly faster than 8, luckily... But still painfully slow on my 4S.

I spent a lot on this iPad Air. I am deathly afraid of allowing iOS 10 on it. Was going to forgo doing it, as there is no carrier subsidized iPad for me like my phones have all been. Now it looks like Apple is going to force iOS versions on me, and in the long run force me to pay for a new iPad... Which has me livid.

Im with you. Apple auto downloads steal so much of my private storage space. Millions have been frustrated for years. I have Apple blocked on my home system for like mentioned in earlier posts but every day at work I'm re-filled with another forced IOS download to delete every night. This steal both my space and battery power. Ultimately when updating my older iOS devices I found it slows them down so much it effectively kills them off. No real answer unless the corporation decides to do the right thing. This is highly unlikely given the corporation needs you to replace your oldwe IOS devices so from my point of view this is a classic conflict of interest.

Of late this forced download is of current news again as the download to subsequent immediate install of IOS 10 apparently has not worked out to well for many users. i Remember when companies did there own beta testing prior to public release instead of after. I suppose getting the blind faithful to be Guinea pigs Is much cheaper.

Try to avoid being connected to wifi during long periods of charging your phone.

THe OTA update will only download when you are both connected to wifi and power. Hope this reply wasnt a MONTH! Too late.

HI all, I have mesu.apple.com blocked on my router but iOS10.2 is still auto downloading everytmr I have it plugged in and wifi. is there a new server I need to block?
